Game is fun but the AI was killing the inmersion heavily, so i decided to try lone fighters and I realized its plagued of bots LOL. A pitty because I love this game mode
I think it’s interesting getting in with a bunch of bots, watching how they behave, and how much intervention is needed to tip the win lose rate of a game of bots. And it can give you time to explore the map without having to get all sweaty, to win. But those games are rare, like middle of the night rare.
I think having all the AI (squad mode) is the part that gives it the most immersion.
Lets players be the “heroes” and AI play the fodder.
you dont want the bots to be killers, thats the heroes job (the player). Think of them only as battle ambience or free respawns.
Players that aren’t good at fighting at other players can still get kills (by killing AI) and feel like a hero, everyone wins.
I love that the AI can’t shoot you through all the bushes now, but close range it is probably too dumbed down. As I’m very bad at FPS it’s still very good that I can score some kills before properly killed by a real enemy though.
I don’t like the fact that a talented player can kill my entire 7-ish squad in a room with a single knife if I happen to be slow realizing what’s going on. This should not happen - 2 kills ok, the rest should yell (to alert me) and throw itself into the melee fight and WIN. Maybe 4:1 is OK but 7:0 is quite unrealistic with a knife vs. gun fight. If it’s an entire enemy squad attacking then of course it’s OK but for a “lone wolf”, that feels off.
If I’m with a rifle in hand and someone attacks with a knife, the gun will be between us so he can’t jump in my face even if I’m unable to target and shoot, he’d cut my fingers first face to face at most - meaning if in this situation I’d be able to press a “melee defend”, the rifle could protect me from the first stab attempt even if I’m out of ammo, meaning rest of the team has enough time to intervene.
Also in a real fight he could not fly through the bodies of the just massacred ones so that would be a meat shield for both sides, and then the rest of the team would be able to react again.
I guess if we’d be alerted more to the fact that enemy is in melee range (are we alerted just I don’t realize?) and ‘Z’ would not bring us to downed soldiers if others are ready to fight, that would already somewhat remedy this situation.
Another AI ‘illness’ I think worth mentioning is that it should be possible to tell the AI whether to stand ground regardless of the amount of shots all around or be actively taking cover first before returning fire. In different situations one or the other is useful.
Dev’s hint about attack/defend/passive modes will also be useful.
I think they don’t want us to wait too much so they fill the rest with bots. And that’s a big miss. I’d happily wait 3 minutes to get the game going on with real players only, if I had an option to allow that amount of wait. Also at the end of the match a “play again with this group” option and then only those who wish to leave the current group would need to be replaced by fresh meat.
You can hit him with your rifles buttstock. That will słów nim down a bit and give a little concussion effect. Even your bots can do that but most of the times they react to slowly for the player running around and stabbing them blindly with a knife.
That is an attack. I wish to have some defensive motion that does not hurt him much just pushes back, and is much quicker. I can kill someone or get killed by someone, but can’t block or push back anyone. If there are like 8 people on a corridor and some ninja enters and stabs everyone one by one, I don’t even see what’s happening on the other end of the row. I guess I can’t shoot because of the friendly units between us and if shot first then get stabbed, that’s the end of the story, the weapon between us is longer than his knife yet he passes through it unharmed. In reality the attacker would probably fell over the bodies halfway through the squad and if rushes into my weapon then should make me fell on my back. Right now technically you can enter someone else’s body and that makes this melee hunt extreme efficient.
Okay, this is a completely different suggestion than what we started with, AI should be somewhat better at melee if being attacked, like first unit is sitting duck, second one is llama, third one is noob, fourth is a real fighter who puts an end to the massacre.
It’s also an issue of mine that so far I learned the fire + reload combo only and not the proper melee fight, but this ghost fight we have still feels strange for me.
E.g. if the opponent would be slowed down to unperked crouch speed when passing through the just felled or standing bodies of the enemies (who are on their knees or just collapsing), that would be already much more realistic. Maybe less fun, so it’s just a suggestion.
Okay, that sounds reasonable too. I think this is nice suggestion and you should make separate thread about improving melee combat.
