Replace the Ersatz M10 model on the Eastern Front with T-V Panther

The problem:

Currently, the “Ersatz M10” (Panther disguised as an American M10 Wolverine) appears in campaigns against the Soviet Union. This looks ridiculous, laughable and historically out of place, as that specific conversion was only used during the Ardennes Offensive against US forces and it doesn’t make any sense for the Germans to pretend to be an American vehicle on the Eastern Front.

Proposed solution

When this vehicle is used on Eastern Front maps (e.g. Berlin and hopefully more lare war maps soon), its model should automatically change to a “Re-captured Soviet Panther” (the T-V Panther in War Thunder).

Possible skin improvements:

Instead of the American-style sheet metal shrouds, the tank would look like a standard Panther, but with faded/washed-off Soviet markings, German “re-capture” signs and a battle-worn look (a mix of German Dunkelgelb and Soviet green paint spots, representing a tank that has changed hands several times in the heat of battle).

Re-capturing tanks was not something unheard of in WW2.

Yes, I understand that it doesn’t make much sense to introduce a re-captured vehicle, but seeing Panthers disguised as American tanks on the Eastern Front makes way less sense to me and is pure cringe.

Why this solution is better:

  • Immersion: it removes the confusing American silhouette from the Soviet-German battlefield.
  • Historical logic: while Germans didn’t disguise Panthers as Soviet vehicles, in the chaos of the Eastern Front it wouldn’t be uncommon to use captured (and re-captured) valuable equipment.
  • Asset reuse: the base Panther model is already in the game, it only needs a specific “re-captured” skin for Eastern Front maps.
  • No loss in stats: the same stats would be carried over from the Ersatz M10.

It would be nice if those very special individuals who want to troll/stand out/be unique could still be allowed to opt out from this, as well as people who don’t want to see Ersatz M10 on the Eastern Front could choose to always see Re-Captured T-V Panther on their screens instead.

This would be a nice Quality of Life update for players who value historical atmosphere while keeping the unique Premium status of the vehicle.

That actually sounds very reasonable. The Panther would still be be “disguised” as an enemy tank (even if the tank isnt soviet).

Having the ersatz M10 on the soviet front really is strange even for the player useing it.

As long as it is opt in ( since changing an already paid for premiums is a bit iffy) there really isnt a reason to say no to this.

In a ideal world this would be the case but it probably wont happen. Also the uniform should change to match the enemies uniform in each campaign.

A really cool idea, a recaptured Panther with Soviet camo would be very fitting in the the role of those Panthers.

That being said - a recaptured vehicle is one heck of a story arc.

That note has nothing to do with the final poll so I don’t treat it as relevant. If he truly meant that he should’ve made it a poll option. Instead all he was trying to do is improve the yes proportion by making it seem like they supported that stance

Well if it was up to me, I would force No Ersatz M10 on the Eastern Front at all.

But as I noted, I would be ready for compromize, so that people who desperately want Ersatz M10 on the Eastern Front could out out from T-V Panther replacement.

No it’s not. The entire post was about making this change and was mainly made from the perspective of other players not the one with the premium. It was only mentioned in a side not at the end. If it was implicitly included in the option then it would be more so made from the perspective from the person with the squad. As making it optional wouldn’t fix the problem u implied.

That’s quite good. Standing on the American battlefield, the camouflaged leopard in winter is like a new skin. It’s very much in that historical atmosphere. But I was thinking, could we add a rough Iron Cross on top of the original Soviet paint job to indicate that it was recaptured by Germany? Because since I started playing War Thunder, seeing the appearance of this thing, I would immediately think it’s an ally. I wouldn’t subconsciously want to attack it. The problem is, for the German M10 version of the camouflage, I wouldn’t have such an idea.
