With a 1 spawn per team limitation, I feel there is more of a need for Returning to Base on Aircraft than there is on Reloading. Reloading Aircraft with such quick times allows Pilots to monopolize the Aircraft on a team and encourages making repeated passes with little to no opposition. The higher up I seem to get in the game the worse it gets. I’ve been even having matches where both teams have attackers, seemingly ignoring each other, for uncontested Bombing runs.
Replacing Reloads with Returning To Base has several advantages to the game.
1.) It basically forces the player out of the plane after their mission is complete or out of ammo giving another player a run at it. This could also add the plane back into their spawn pool again after a few minutes; which, would encourage RTB over suicide runs.
2.) It allows more chances for opposition as a bomber/attacker can’t monopolize the Air space. After their run, they’re out of bombs and can RTB for a reload after a few minutes.
3.) It improves the experience by allowing the player to make a successful mission and RTB. Currently the only way to complete the mission is to get killed, make repeated passes, or just suicide out. RTB would allow a player to grab a fighter, shoot down the player, then get back to taking Ground.
I feel this would make the Air/Ground Interaction better all around. What does everyone else think?

So basically once you are out of ammo you can no longer enjoy your plane? That sounds very antifun to me.

You’d RTB, allow the Air Squad to refresh, and make another run when it does as you didn’t lose it. There’s only 1 per team… Does it feel fair to you that it can be monopolized so easily? In most games I can’t enjoy my plane at all with the current way it is.
funny. cause those infinite bombing runs are pretty antifun for 10 opposing players who eats nuke 15 secs after game starts

No fun either way. Pretty sure forcing pilots out of their planes when out of ammo will encourage loitering out of the map boundaries to camp the enemy aircraft.
Not necessarily “forcing;” however, encouraging with the RTB option.
Going from previous Ground RB experience in War Thunder. Sure, camping would happen in some instances; however, they would run out of ammo also and it would be a short lived experience with one player and impacting one player.
There is always going to be trade offs with any game mechanic. The current mechanic just seems to cater to the first person to grab an aircraft and disproportionally rewards them.
NO.
This entire thread is stupid.

not even closely stupid as current pilot mechanics.

Planes are already really easy to take out, I shoot them out of the air with a stock rifle all the time, often it takes only one shot. If you’re going to make a mechanic like this then planes need to be a lot more sturdy as well.
I agree with OP. I like the idea.
