AI shouldn’t use ammo at all, magazines should be full all the time.
Current mechanic serves no real purpose other than annoying players, it should be removed.
I think it only should start emptying the ammo when the player has control over that squad member.
Agreed.
The bot has virtually unlimited ammo since it does not consume spare magazines, but for some reason only the ammo in the loaded magazine is depleted. This is pointless.
It is annoying that during combat, whenever the bot tries to control the soldier it is investigating, it always has a gun with only one round left loaded.
Main thing that annoys me is when you swap to bot, they have never cycled their bolt. (Bolt actions)
That and they have 1 orv2 shots left
On the one hand, I would be for it. But a more rational solution is for the bot to reload what the player does, or replenish ammo in the box and reload.
Or replace the soldier selection window with some command selection window like: reload weapon; prepare a grenade; throw a grenade; barrage fire on a designated position; treat the wounded (when there is a medic in the party), etc.
Problem is that AI reloading simply doesn’t make sense.
Reloading in terms of gameplay forces player to make breaks in firing and seek cover (as he is defenceless). AI makes breaks on its own and doesn’t seek for cover so it’s pointless.
Also I simply don’t believe devs are capable of making this right.
The problem with this forced reload mechanic is the amount of rounds in the magazines. Because there is no mechanics of transferring cartridges from one magazine to another. Or recharging magazines from packs of cartridges.
