Currently in game tankers can juggle shells by using the “Change the type of ammo without losing reload progress (loader perk)”.
The clip attached below will show how you can abuse this perk to juggle shells without further progressing your reload. This allows you to juggle shells before moving into the battlefield thus, making you be able to be prepared for all situations (either using HE for infantry or AP round for tanks).
This is super unrealistic loaders cant switch shells in a split second. And in terms of gameplay standpoint, this makes tanks to easily prepared for any situation and almost impossible to kill a skilled tanker.
I suggest that there should be a delay between switching shells, preventing juggling of shells because the ~2 or 3 second delay will further the progress on the reload. But this should be dependent on how many shell types are available to the tank (some tanks have 4 shell types whilst others have 2).
Should tanks get a shell swapping delay to prevent shell juggling?
Besides, if you are so good at multitasking that you can continously juggle shells whilst moving around a cluttered battlefield, engaging targets, and remaining fully conscious to decide when to use what perticular shell at what time… then fair play, I can’t do that…
whole point is to close the massive skill gap there can be for tankers. Not to say about tanker vs infantry. This makes tankers to easily adapt to any situation just by juggling the shell.
I don’t know that this is some endemic issue, I think the population of people who can effectively juggle is very very very small indeed… arguing on this front makes the issue look very overstated.
I don’t even agree that having a shell ready to be inserted into the breach is a bad thing - I want a dedicated mechanic for that. That’s essentially the difference here - doing a very game-y quick button-mash that you either have to be good at multitasking to fully benefit from, or sacrificing a lot of your attention to maintain, vs having a dedicated function to split “preparing” a shell from “loading” a shell.
All to say… split loading should definately be a thing, and loaders should be able to keep shells in reserve for partial-reloads…
Honestly the amount of tank duels where the deciding factor is who loaded the first shell faster isnt very high, so adding a delay would like just be a nerf to vehicles that suffer long reload times and kinda need to be able to quickly switch shells mid reload in order to remain viable.
