Regarding AI behavior

It’s understandable that the AI is a bit shit in this stage of the Beta, but i think some things are just unforgivable regarding the AI’s reaction to orders.
My main gripe with this issue is how useless they are when ordered inside a room, they just stand around clumped up in a group looking at walls, all it takes is one enemy player with a MP40 or a Papash to come in and wipe the whole squad because of this behavior.
I believe a cover or “mounting” system would be beneficial for the AI to make it at least useful to an extent, when ordered inside a room the bots should take cover behind objects, kneel down in front of a window, cover hallways and doors, how it is now it’s just too frustrating every time a simple situation turns bad because the AI is utterly incompetent .

I just miss the kill counts they had prior. They are all showing zeros now.

I’m torn over AI now… See with the kill counts missing I thought they just weren’t killing anymore. I know they aren’t the smartest; however, they did serve a purpose.

So I ran a test last night and recorded… I had the goal of not firing a shot and just ordering these knuckleheads around… I expected to be last on the scoreboard with maybe a handful of kills… Well, that didn’t happen.

Even though they’re horrible… Then still managed to outperform a majority of players. How is this possible? How do they improve the AI with results like this?

I seriously don’t know what to think on this now.

Yeah lol, one guy will jump around point blank and kill my entire AI squad all armed with MP40s with a Springfield bolt action…

There’s part of your issue - AI tend to fail completely at compensating for recoil, so it’s best to hand them all guns with high first-hit-kill probability, SMGs are one of the worst guns for AI as a result. Bolt actions and shotguns are probably the best for AI at the moment as a result. Though they do okay with semi-autos, and LMGs do better than SMGs as AI will often do better with the first shots.

I will admit though, AI is also horrible at positioning and situational awareness.

I’ve got over 100 hours and I can’t say with certainty that I’ve ever even seen a bot fire an smg.

Even my rifles squad all armed with Kar 98s fail at killing anyone. From medium to close range, or even in the same road.

I only ever die to AI if I run out of ammo and have to reload right in front of them.

I was wondering about this… I thought maybe they did better with the Springfield than they are doing with the Garand. LMG’s were doing pretty well; at least, until they broke the individual soldier kill counts…

I’d like to see how squads of Springfields and BARS do…

Are you marking enemy locations and using the defend this area command for your AI soldiers?

You mean the double press quick command? Yes.

I… don’t know what you mean by double pressing quick command?

For me on PC, I’m pressing V to spot enemies / groups of enemies that I see, and pressing X to tell my AI to defend points when I run into enemies, or when I’m setting down fortifications or capturing a point and the like. I tend to get a ton of assist kills and my AI tend to actually fire at enemies in general, though they still derp out and fail at taking cover.

Usually they just get mowed down anyways the AI command for console we have to go through two wheels to access it, which takes a ridiculous amount of time when trying to do it quickly while being attacked. We have a thing so if you double press x it will mark a location for your AI to stay at or go to.

I mean, I don’t know exactly what to say, but other than that, do you have the ability to spot enemies? If AI location direction isn’t the main point for AI performance, it may be the spotting enemies that does it for me, perhaps?

If I aim down sights I can put an enemy marker, you know the triangle thing that sits there to notify your team? Is that what you mean by spotting? Does the AI react to those?

Yes it is, and I believe that it does cause AI in your squad to react, in my experience? Also i thought I read a devblog that said they were making it so AI would react more to spotting prompts, but I’m not certain about that.

Next time I play I’ll be sure to use those prompts, I’ll come back here with any findings on their effectiveness and see if they get any more kills than the usual zero lol.
