paratroopers currently are too arcady and historically unrealistic/inaccurate. they are used in game in a way that they were never used in real life (that allowed them to survive the landing).
what are the problems:
paratroopers dont jump without first having air supremacy - totally ignored in game
when they jumped they were mostly dropping behind enemy lines and they were inaccurate
direct jumps on enemy are impossible. battle of crete and battle of dnieper are perfect examples of what happens to paratroopers who jump directly on enemy
planes didnt teleport directly above battlefield
how to fix them:
allow them their primary role. going behind enemy lines. have them able to survive in gray zone for minute or two after landing.
if they land on cap, have them suicide
introduce travel time for transport planes and mark those planes with enemy/ally marker
dont allow paratroopers unless your team has air superiority (1v0 planes or 2v1) or there are no planes in the air
spread troopers little around designated landing point. those parachutes didnt have steering (or they had limited steering for emergencies) so it was impossible to land with pinpoint precision
paratroopers need to be situational and not master of all.
I totally agree but i need 1 engineer when normally spawned like other units.
Paras also are good elite ground fighters. Like us paras hold bastogne or falschimjager hold monte cassino without any dropping operation.
also paratroopers would be severely outnumbered and they would have timer for staying into gray zone. best use for them would be destroying camping grey zone tanks and/or destroying rally points before returning to zone of engagement.
looking at tanks and gray zone… also there are some snipers/engineers/HMG that love to snipe from gray zone.
well there is… cap point is full of enemies, 50m behind isnt. also you could argue with DF on why they put gray zone 50m behind cap since there is no difference…
overall i would give them time to finish one mission and then they would need to return to engagement zone. not for them to have permanent ability to spawncamp.
and you would only have a chance of staying in gray zone for minute or max two. that would give option of destroying gray zone camper or having one more way of flanking.
currently paratroopers are sci fi squad that teleports above objective before they jump. then they are more or less regular squad.
what is the point of paratroopers if you use them like normal squad. currently people are just abusing them for quick rally on cap zone.
So wasting whole squad and time (in which I am complete gone from objective doing pretty much nothing) just to destroy one grey zone camper, nice. Or trying to build rally between obj and enemy spawn, lol
They would became just bikes v2, complete gimmick.
not really. they can choose to attack objective if they want to. i would prefer to have some unique way to play squad and not just to make them multipurpose squad with “teleport” on the map where you dont have rally point built.
jumping directly on objective/battlefield is bad mechanic for multitude of reasons.
historically that was not paratroopers goal and if they dropped on enemy they were massacred cause they were helpless.
game wise it makes defense much harder when defenders not only have to guard front and flanking positions, but also their roof
paratroopers when attacking can reach next objective faster than defenders.
Majority or classes here doesn’t mirror its real life participation in battle.
Countering paras currently is nothing hard, you just have to notice them before it’s too late.
That’s why I would place flaresmoke in dropzone so enemies can easier notice of incoming threats.
Thats not issue with paras. I was able to do it with pretty much every other class too.
Defenders trying to pointlessly farming kills on already lost objective while complety ignoring new one.
As defender, you can spawn on new objective in limited time. So they can reach new objective faster than paras. (Since previous squad of attacking player has to die too before he’s able to use paras)
Defenders just didn’t care, that’s all to it.
So you want them to have no impact on the immediate battlefield and you want them to drop 2 objectives behind your lines so when you fall back you can’t and you immediately lose the point because they’ve already got you encircled.
Because that’s how paratroopers work historically.
notice them when plane teleports right above their jump point?
they can have impact on immediate battlefield. they can also flank or attack from behind. issue i am having with paratroopers is that they are just another “normal” squad just with different spawning mechanism currently. their current role ingame is unrealistic. imagine that on d-day they were being dropped on beaches when other soldiers landed. cause that is what we currently have.
default spawns have spawn protection and there is kill cam. if they go for spawn camping they will be very ineffective and probably dead very fast cause they will not have other players for support. not to mention limited staying time in gray zone
