Rebalancing Armored Tank Destroyers: 75% AP, 25% HE Ammo Loads for -1 BR

Please note that this does not apply to tank destroyers with minimal armor, if at all. When I refer to armored tank destroyers, I am referring to examples such as:

  • Jagdpanzer IV
  • Panzer IV/70(A)
  • Panzer IV/70(V)
  • Jagdpanther
  • Bfw. Jagdpanther G1
  • SU-85M
  • SU-100

Armored Tank Destroyers are suboptimal choices compared to their turreted counterparts because they offer comparable firepower and armor but lack a turret.

To illustrate, there is no reason to spawn a Jagdpanther when it shares the same BR as King Tigers, and no reason to spawn in an SU-85M when both the IS-1 and T-38-85s offer similar firepower and a turret.

They are in a BR bracket where their armor offers similar, if not worse protection compared to their turreted counterparts, making them an objectively worse option to select and spawn, but reducing their Battle Rating and keeping their stats as they presently are would be too strong.

The proposal is to:

  • Reduce the aformentioned vehicle’s Battle Ratings by 1
  • Adjusting their carried ammo loads to 75% AP / 25% HE

The goal is to reduce the oppressiveness of having a heavily-armored tank being in a lower BR by clamping down on their ability to provide infantry support, making them specialized vehicles a player may spawn to shut down enemy armor. This gives them a well-defined role and niche with tradeoffs.

Besides the Jagpanthers, all of those just need to be dropped down a BR without any changes just to be viable.

The Jagpanther is unfortunately a victim of BR5’s power creep, so it’s effectively become a BR5 vehicle having to compete with BR6 vehicles.

Jagdpanzer IV also no, It would be indestructible to most BR3 tanks and BR2 tanks almost none, Panzer IV/70(V) there is also a discussion

While it would be difficult to kill a Jagdpanzer IV frontally, it would be far from impossible, and the same goes for the Panzer IV/70(V). The main drawback they face is their absolutely abysmal side armor, which considering they’re casemates would be exposed more often than not if they’re changing targets.

On top of that, they’re casemates so that immediately puts them at a disadvantage to infantry, which is what they’re gonna be dealing with most of the time.

So yeah in a 1 on 1 tank duel where they’re both staring at each other a Jagdpanzer IV would be at a distinct advantage (Unless it’s an M8 Scott or someone who knows how to aim), but how often does that occur and is that enough to outweigh the disadvantages being a casemate in Enlisted poses.

If have a Jagdpanzer IV in gray zone in BR3 and no plane or guerrilla destroys it, it will become indestructible, so going to BR3 is not a good idea

Definitely not indestructible, unless it’s like D-Day but that map is just horribly designed. There’s always counter play to greyzoners.

That being said, Jagdpanzer IV is not BR3

it was already lowered from BR5 to BR4 actually.
Though yeah it is worse than the IS-1, but its still way better than any tank you could have at BR3, in fact no BR2 tank could reliably penetrate its armour, only the Marder III so even with limited number of HE shells it would still be the most dominant and used Soviet vehicle on BR3, making all other redundant.

As for the other vehicles here,Panzer IV/70(V), SU-100 and Jagdpanther should all be moved to BR4 since M36 Jackson (which still happens to have a turret actually…) was added to BR4.

I think the Jadgpanthers and the SU-85M are the only ones that don’t deserve to be lowered.
