Idea is that you can call 1-2 planes piloted by AI that will atack enemy planes. Called plane doesn’t engage ground targets, protects ground troops from bombers, gives an option to have a dogfight if you wish.
Thoughts?
i have neutral feelings about it to be honest.
having AIs flying around and engage you it’s a bit far from ideal ( if you are playing as a bomber which those are not really meant for dog fight ) let alone finding real players flying actual fighter planes.
( and no, i know it sounds contradittory, but i explained how they would work differently in the suggestion that we discussed alittle bit ago ).
so yes, to bring more the battlefield alive,
no for the reasons above.
Yes and no. Doing so would make spawning in a fighter completely pointless for the team… but the fighter would have more fun targets.
you mean like how they currently are
How about a patroling zone? But I’m afraid that maps are too small to make that somewhat realistic, they would probably cover 1/4 of the playable area.
I thought about AI planes being good vs bombers but bad vs fighters.
So there are two most probable scenarios:
- enemy spawns a bomber, you call AI planes, enemy spawns a fighter to get rid of them, maybe your team spawns a fighter (possible pvp dogfight), enemy spawns a bomber if the sky is clear, repeat
- enemy spawns a bomber, you call AI planes, enemy doesn’t spawn air, AI planes’ timer runs out, enemy spawns a bomber, repeat
So the worst case scenario: less bombers.
I like this idea … But AI controlled planes are only spawned if there are no player controlled fighters on the map …
In addition give player controlled fighters significant XP rewards for shooting down enemy planes to compensate for time spent in the air …
Significant XP reward should be average xp earned by bombers based on time in flight …
Is it exchange for radio arty? I mean, do you have to choose this over arty, or can you use both.
in first scenario, many will not use it, but if you dont like bombers, then you are good to go. It will also not force additional nerfs to either of those abilities.
Second scenario will lead to radio being op. Same if its addtional class, that you can attach to squad together with normal radio man. It would also lead to more of those abilities coming to live, and eventually, everyone will be spaming something. There will be AI bombers, tanks and so on.
I like the first scenario more.
Hmm, how about a flak barrage? Just like arty but for the air. Off-map large calibre flak guns can cover an area for a short time, to dissuade bombers from flying through. Hit chance wouldn’t be high, but the turbulence caused by near-misses can mess up a bomb-run and and puffs of smoke might also impede vision on the target a bit.
The radioman would choose the area just like he does with arty on the map and the game would automatically match the altitude of the barrage to any nearby enemy aircraft.
I like this suggestion, as long as the AI controlled fighters are effective in taking down bombers.
How come nobody has suggested giving engineers the ability to build barrage balloons yet?
Very cheap (like barbed wire or sandbags), unavailable indoor, spawning about 20m high and slowly ascending up to a fixed altitude with a ±10-20m random factor.
Not game-changing, but one more tool for infantry to fight CAS supremacy.
Edit: I’ll make a separate thread for that.
I semi made a similar video about some changes I would like to have seen made for the Radio Operator and the Engineer in the context of the air war. Video Link Here.
This was back before I really understood audio engineering and editing in general so I apologize for the shitty quality…also it is a shameless plug lol.
I think that they need to buff fighters to make it a viable option for air defense PVP. Right now if you picked the P51 or the Bf109 and engaged an enemy attack aircraft you are at best going to get 1 and 1/2 bombers before needing to reload.
While earning a miserable amount of XP for doing so.
