If competent enemy with full auto weapon kills player first, whole squad is basically lost. I had such situations few times, and made a few.
I use 3 types of rifles for my US squads.
- The assault squad extras all have the M2, it works fine for medium and short range. It has an auto mode but I rather shoot them on semi auto hip firing unless inside buildings then blaze on full auto. It takes a bit to learn the spread control but when you have that down it works really well with 30 bullets per mag. I use the 40% vertical recoil perk so that you dont have to ajust to much sideways.
- Sniper squad extras have a Lee enfield bolt just because I like to shoot it and 1 or 2 just random in the other squads.
- All others I use the Garand with 30% horizontal recoil perk. Great semi auto. Thing I had to learn myself is, when I enter a building with it I always clicked as fast as possible to kill everything in front. With 8 bullets that clip is empty fast and you hit a dead body or wall etc resulting in death. Now when I enter I shoot measured and can kill 8 guys with it making it pretty good at room clear as well.
Germans, FG42 all the way with a few kar98 just because bolts are still fun to shoot.
True
Me too . it’s a butchery
Bots AI doesn’t really help
On silver orders, I only use them on vehicles. Those you can not get anywhere else.
so practically they are good only for the close range m2 / fg42 full auto?
This
Semi auto are great to this purpose.
And many others
this is the point the semi-auto are “great” so I ask myself if it is stupid to throw the gewer43 or the garand for fg42 or m2 if then I still have to use it in semi-auto wasted orders if so
Fg42 is pretty much a Garand and a better controlable M2 in one.
However a sniper fg42 I always use on auto. Easier to hold the button with a lead on a squad than clicking. Mounted its a scoped lmg pretty much.
If I would spend silver on weapons (I dont) it would be fg42 and Garand. Speaking just Normandy. Pretty sure someone else knows better about Berlin/Moskow than me.
i think you shouldn’t waste orders for semi-autos anymore.
It’s common with bronze order. even in Moscow where you unlocked them in end game.
i keep my silver to max all my mg 34 for now

I already have them the full semi-auto squads I was just wondering if the top tier rifles were worth the expense from your answers result was a purchase more than anything else optional not necessary for the purpose of the game thanks for the answers you saved me a lot of orders
I like more gwer43 than fg42 not for statistic but for form of the wapons
Glad to be of help.
i would say the m2 carbine is worth it just because it’s a carbine and only if you have an addiction to carbines like i do
A good argument can be made for picking Garand over M2. They are very distinct from each other, with M2 being more of an oversized submachine gun. It’s kind of the worst of both worlds too - low damage and high recoil.
FG42, though, is an obvious improvement over every other option. To a point where it’s bizarre how many of those you can put in each squad. It has everything you want from a semi-auto rifle plus larger magazine and full-auto mode. You won’t get more power, but increased flexibility is a big deal.
The sights on it is the only thing I personally don’t like. Would have been the perfect weapon otherwise.
The fg 42 is broken that’s a no brainer but the m2 carabine is…well special i guess. Don’t try to aim with it, u can’t hit much anyway just hip fire and it’s pretty great…at very close ranges, definitely not a replacement for the garand, i use it with some of my engineers and as a secondary weapon for the troopers.
the m2 also does less damage than a full starred grease gun with the max damage being 8.0 and the grease’s max being 8.2
M2 feels like direct upgrade to M1. No loses, just gains - more bullets per magazine and additional firing mode. But I have problems with this gun because of iron sights. So I gave this weapon to bots, they don’t mind with such problems.
Still, M2 and Sten for me are least usable weapons in Normandy. Sure, you can kill with it, but there are much better alternatives in each category.
it loses end game damage with a full starred m2 dealing 8.0 while the base m1 does 8.8 when fully starred
I can talk about Normandy.

Germany: as others said, FG42 is simply THE best and most versatile rifle. However, I prefer using it in semi auto. You can test it when you unlock the sniper version; the regular version feels exactly the same, minus the scope. It IS better than the G43, yet the leap in versatility is not as big as jumping from full bolt action to full semi auto. You may still be good with some G43 in your squads, until RNG overlords bless you with enough FG42 from bronze orders.

USA: Garand beats M2 hands down at medium and long range, arguably being a close match even in CQC, where the 8 rounds become the main limit. As others said, M2 is an SMG disguised as rifleman weapon. Good at hipfire room cleaning thanks to ROF and large magazine, but you’ll be cursing any time ADS is involved.
