Ok so when I load into a custom server, am I able to use any appearance mode on any map in a custom server? (Like use battle of berlin in battle of the bulge in custom servers)

I’m not 100% on what you mean by
However I do know if you play lone fighters or squads (in customs) the solders and vehicles use uniforms and camos for the theater. If the squad doesn’t have an appearance for that campaign then it’s random ergo USSR in Burma or Tunisia wearing great coats and so on…
I tried booting up a custom Berlin game - Allies vs Soviets…
The Allies all wore desert uniforms, no matter what campaign preset I put in the battle setup settings.

I am talking about when you edit your squad’s appearance and leave, would the appearance mode from the campaign customization tab make you in a custom server, wear that uniform even if it’s out of its campaign

No it wouldn’t sorry.
If I play Soviets in a custom match in Tunisia, I always get soldiers wearing full winter gear. 
Japanese still wear shorts, but that is their basic Pacific wardrobe.

Plus that’s courtesy of the fact they only have one cosmetics lineup they don’t get separate ones for Manchuria… so on the plus side what you see is what you get.
