Proposal: Commonwealth Faction, Allied Matchmaking & Expanded Customisation
Hello everyone,
I’m a returning Enlisted player who originally played during the Tunisia campaign, primarily using British forces. I also work in game development and 3D asset creation.
I’ve been thinking about several ways Enlisted could improve faction identity, historical representation and player customisation, while potentially creating additional opportunities for monetisation.
I’d be interested in hearing both the community’s and developers’ opinions.
1. Give Britain and the Commonwealth their own research tree
I believe British and Commonwealth forces deserve to be represented independently rather than remaining integrated into the American research tree.
Enlisted already features substantial British and Commonwealth equipment, including Lee-Enfield rifles, Sten and Owen SMGs, Bren guns, Matilda tanks, Grant tanks and even the Australian AC.I Sentinel.
There is already a foundation for an independent British Commonwealth Forces faction.
This could bring together British, Australian, Canadian, Indian, New Zealand and South African formations under one research and customisation tree.
It would also give the developers more opportunities to introduce historical Commonwealth content in future updates.
2. Separate matchmaking alliances from national research progression
I understand that creating additional factions could potentially fragment the matchmaking population.
However, I believe there is a solution: allow independent factions to share historically appropriate matchmaking pools.
For example:
- Normandy: American and British/Commonwealth players versus Germany.
- North Africa: British/Commonwealth and American forces versus Germany and Italy.
- Burma: British/Commonwealth forces versus Japan.
- Pacific: American and Australian forces versus Japan.
A Normandy match could consist of six American players and four Commonwealth players against ten German players.
This is similar in principle to War Thunder’s approach of allowing multiple nations to participate on the same team.
National research and customisation would remain separate, but matchmaking would operate around historical alliances.
This could preserve matchmaking flexibility while improving faction identity.
3. Introduce selectable soldier voice banks
I’d love to see greater individuality among soldiers through additional voice customisation.
Players could choose different voice actors, regional accents and personalities for individual soldiers.
Examples could include English regional accents, Welsh, Scottish, Australian, Canadian and other appropriate Commonwealth voices.
These wouldn’t necessarily require entirely new dialogue. Different performances of existing voice lines could already provide substantial variety.
Voice banks could be earned through gameplay, purchased using customisation tokens or sold directly for Gold.
Personally, I’d happily pay to give my favourite soldiers more personality.
4. Expand direct-purchase cosmetic customisation
I understand Enlisted is a free-to-play game and requires revenue to support continued development.
I don’t object to cosmetic microtransactions. Quite the opposite: I would welcome more opportunities to purchase historical uniforms, helmets, camouflage patterns, vehicle decorations and voice packs.
However, I find randomised rewards and limited-time exclusivity frustrating when there’s a particular item I actually want.
My suggestion would be to expand transparent, direct-purchase options.
For example:
- Individually purchasable historical headgear and uniforms.
- Regiment-specific uniform bundles.
- Alternative soldier voice packs.
- Historical vehicle markings and camouflage.
- The option to purchase selected older event cosmetics after an exclusivity period.
Players would know exactly what they’re getting, while the developers would have additional products to offer.
I’m not suggesting removing events or rewards for dedicated players. Rather, I’d like to see a system that rewards participation without permanently excluding players who missed an event.
5. Make squads feel more personal
Ultimately, I believe all these suggestions contribute to one goal: making Enlisted’s squads feel distinctive.
Players spend considerable time developing their soldiers, unlocking perks and equipping their favourite formations.
Greater control over their national identity, appearance and voices would make those soldiers feel like a personal squad rather than interchangeable characters.
It could also encourage players to remain invested in the game for longer.
Final thoughts
I appreciate that implementing these changes would require development resources, changes to progression systems and careful consideration of matchmaking balance.
Nevertheless, I believe Enlisted already has much of the necessary foundation.
A dedicated Commonwealth research tree, shared Allied matchmaking and expanded customisation could improve the experience for players while creating additional opportunities for the developers.
I’d be particularly interested to hear whether other players would support an independent Commonwealth faction, and what potential drawbacks they see with shared Allied matchmaking.
