Progression of SMG's - Japan & USA

1. Firstly… i think stock weapons should have rate of fire below their optimal and fully upgraded weapons should have the historical rate of fire. Currently in game we end up with crazy stuff like PPsH-41 which has its 1000RPM hostorial figure but we all run upgraded weapons so it gets unhistorical 1150RPM.

Lets begin…

Allies
M3 SMG - BR I [380RPM]
M55 Reising - BR I [500RPM , 20 round mag]
Sten Mk II - BR I
M50 Reising - BR I [550RPM, 30 round mag]
M3A1 - BR II
Owen Mk I - BR II
Lanchester 32 - BR II
M1 Thompson - BR II [600RPM]
Patchett Mk I SMG - BR III [550RPM, 50 rounds]
M1928A1 Thompson - BR III [700RPM]
Thompson M21/28 - BR III
M1A1 Thompson - BR III [700RPM]
Thompson .30 cal SMG - BR IV
M1928A1 Thompson Drum 50 - BR IV
M1928A1 Thompson Drum 100 - BR V
Hyde M1944 - BR V

Japan

May I make a few notes for your suggestion, for you to incorperate into your list?

Two notes here:

  • Rate of fire was not 550. Indeed, that was the requested RoF by the military when laying out the requirements for a Sten replacement. However, the Patchett Machine Carbine was noted by the military to actually fire in excess of 600rpm (and I doubt by a little, because a 50rpm difference is bairly noticeable, yet this was still documented at the time as a discrepency). So, a more accurate number would be anywhere between 600 and 650.

  • Together with the increased RoF, and some other stat changes to make it work, I believe the best placement for the Patchett to be BR III. The Patchett should be the British/Commonwealth players choice for a high(er) BR SMG, next to the ocasional lend-lease Thompson, a tech tree role that currently (even in your list) is going unfilled. The gun is also extreamly late-war and so, if we can, we should do our best to push it up a BR anyway.

If you want a TT SMG in BR II in place of the Patchett (and as a alternative to the Lanchester), maybe you should consider the Sten Mk V?

This one is actually already a event weapon in BR III.

This one is already a premium weapon of a paratrooper squad.

A note for all other Thompsons in general:

Have you considered adding some 20-round variants of the guns to the list? I think the game really should offer these in the tech tree, and also start foldering in Thompson variants who share magazines in the tech tree (so they don’t take up so much space, and open room for the 20-round Thompsons).

You could to the same for other mag versions, such as drum a version of the M21/28.

I think that, as a rule of thumb, 20-round Thompsons are BR II, 30-round Thompsons are BR III, and 50-round Thompsons can* be argued to be BR IV (as you already seem to agree with).

*Can be argued, I myself haven’t really settled one way or the other.

Thompson 30 cal with 20 round mag is same performance as Hyde 1944 just 10 rounds less in mag
The .30 cal , 20 mag Thompson is more like an assault rifle with 20 rounds with its very high velocity
