There should instead be a overhaul of how melee weapons work, so that swords aren’t the best option around.
Like axes dealing additional damage to destructable objects, all knives having a sprint speed increase, mounted bayonets having the longest range, shovels getting a seperate button to dig so you can melee faster and even charge, and more.
I’ve been meaning to make a suggestion about this for over a year, just haven’t been able to translate thought to paper in a manner that I find satisfying or worthy of being posted. I think I’ve deleted three or four drafts now on the subject…
we really don’t need swords in other nations when bayonets exist the Shin gunto is a funny gimmic at best and not actually that useful because this is how it plays out every time you use your katana you charge into a group of Russians or Americans kill like 2 or 3 guys then the rest of them turn and mow you down like Ala Secura during order 66
charge and movement speed increase is not a gimmick… it’s not used for combat… it increases your speed traversing around the map… an excellent tool at building rallies.
It can still very much be used in combat. The fact that a person holding a Shin Gunto travels 50% faster can easily be the difference between being killed by the person they’re charging and killing them instead.
I believe this was proven in one episode of TNMT.
Which, probably is more plausible source than where ever you got your “documents”
However, Japanese charging with Katanas and fighting to last man was actually a documented thing.
Never heard of soviets assaulting anything with axes.
