Premium squads

I was thinking it would be nice to have to ability to take the infantry/vehicle premium squads for a test run through the practice area, before purchasing them. Kind of like with the war thunder premium vehicles.

And reworking premiums as a whole to make them worthwhile, just as non premium squads are. Right Gaijin/Darkflow? Right? RIGHT???

Im thinking about the P38t for moscow, but would like to give it a go before. Moscow is the only one i havent really played yet.

This bugs me as well. There’s ppl like me, collectors, who would buy those squads just because they are different, a bit unique.

But I have principles: for the very few they offer now, they are overpriced. It would feel like a scam buying them, so I don’t.

I mean, the solution to the issue of premium squads being overpriced should be reducing their price. Like, the prices for the higher level ones are just utterly bonkers. $45 for a plane? The price scale should probably top out at something like $15-20.

Buffing them on the otherhand to the point that they feel “worth it” despite the nutty price tag is an incredibly dangerous route, since that just makes the premium squads become pay to win. Either shell out a bunch of cash, or get killed repeatedly by equipment you can’t possibly attain.

In a game like this gameplay affecting premium content really only works if its quirky side grade type things, which are interesting and worth buying because of the novelty and niche tools they offer, rather than because they are actually particularly powerful in any straightforward sense.

The community only asks that those squads become AS USEFUL as regular, non premium squads. By that we mean having a say in squad composition (like being having engineers in them), having the possibility to reach 5 stars, again like regular non premiums.

In fact the only “premium” feature that would be an advantage over regular squads would be the +100% xp. That’s it. We don’t want overpowered things, we don’t want squads of 7 assaulters, or God forbid, 7 gunners (!). Because right now, any and all regular non premium squads are BETTER than premium ones, in every ways exept the bonus xp rate.

Ah, that makes more sense. Only preimum squad I’ve actually used is the BA-11 (All hail clown car of doom), which being a vehicle doesn’t really care about not having the option to add specialists or anything, (and honestly tier 5 tankers are meh) so didn’t realize that the premium squads got stuck with unupgraded compositions like that. I can see how that is a legitimate issue with their usability if they are stuck with low troop count and no support.

Oooh but a tier 5 tanker has access to the gunner perk that gives better accuracy with the main gun. It’s a VERY useful perk when attacking a higly armoured enemy that you absolutely need to hit small weakspots to damage at all. Premium vehicles… can’t. And yet there’s the “premium” in the title, wich is nonsensical when regular squads are all better (once leveled)

Though you can justify this by saying that the vehicles are usually better than the low, med and can compete with the late game gear.

I personally haven’t seen much of a difference from that one (though I know jack about tank weakspots, so I can concede that I don’t really know what I’m talking about), but yeah, it is certainly an awkward position for the premium squads to be in.

I really just don’t want this game to have a situation like world of tanks has had at times, where if you aren’t paying premium you often just… can’t actually fight at all. It sounds like there is a lot of room to improve things without that occuring though, so yeah, fixing premium squads sounds like a worthwhile path based of what you’ve said.

Better… no.
Different, yes. The Ba-11 has a doom gun for an entry lvl tank… but is paper thin. The german 38t has good frontal armour… but a potato gun, slow turret traverse, only one mg and slow driving speed.

Same principle in Berlin: the m4, good armour, bad gun for the theater. The other panther? Same as regular non premium panther, only with a very sexy skin, and the impossibility of having the gunner accuracy perk, something veeeeery important in that theater, again makes the regular free panther, better.

No idea about Normandy, I don’t play it.

That’s for vehicles. Mind you they are still usable. Now for the infantry squads: all of them will get outshined by regular non premium squads.
Premium trooper squad: “cool, I get 9 troopers with unique bolt actions! Oh wait. I cannot have an engineer in it. Nor a gunner. Nor a sniper. Nor a radio or whatever. Oh look at that, I can’t equip semi autos on them, as their weapons are fixed too!” The STARTER trooper squad, meanwhile, gets all that. Just not +100% xp. 🤷

Ba-11 literally consumes grenades with its engine of placed correctly. Still dont know if this is due a big with the DM or that the majority of German tankers cant aim. Only real counters are the Panzer IV and the P38t.
Basically a ugly BT7 with a better DM in return for being slower and having less ammo.
I dont own the Panzer 38 but the Soviets are hard struggeling with its armor and I usually try to avoid it frontally since it can pen the Soviet med tier tanks and the T-28 without any real issue though it deals less dmg.
I never saw the M24 or the M in France and I never heard anything from the Chaffe but I heard that the Ms armor is bugged (in favor for the Germans).
The Red Sherman has (to some extend) better armor, a M1919MG which is better than the DT-29 (more ammo and higher clip size), faster reload time, a M2HB and its turret is slightly faster (compared to the T-34-85). Dont own the Panther. If I remember correctly its basically the old model they used during the Beta.
But then its just me.
I agree with the Infantry sqauds though (not with the MGs as four MGs is more than enough) and that they should recieve a overhaul which includes engineer and a class which doesnt hurt (we dont need more radios).

From using the BA-11 a fair bit, I am fairly sure the reason it seems so durable at times, particularly against tanks, is that there is a lot of dead space in the front of the vehicle and people don’t know how to shoot it. The only thing in the front half is the engine, which only actually occupies the middle third or so, and the crew are low and ways back. Most ap rounds fired at the front of the vehicle either only damage the engine, which doesn’t prevent the tank from shooting back, or hit nothing. Shots actually directed towards the turret or the rear part of the vehicle on the other hand can take it down very quickly, and explosive packs can kill it extremely easily. Heck, I’m fairly sure I’ve had the transmission damaged by sustained smg fire. At the end of the day its benefiting alot from being both weird and quite rare. (Also its not ugly, its adorable. Literally bought the thing for its looks, the monstrous ap rounds were a happy accident.)
