This can already be done. ADS the objective and use squad command will have them attack / defend the objective and they will march themselves over.
The rest could be an advanced command wheel
We have the ability to change the command to a certain soldier already, so we would need the actions to be doable through that.
For example through the “advanced command” you could tell your engineer to build a rally while ADS’ing a point on the ground, the same for other structures. Could even add the ghost and ability to spin to make sure facing the correct way
This same mechanic could be used with AT Gunners to attack an ADS’d tank. or Medics to heal a soldier.
This could also allow to throw grenade here or suppress fire there as an individual command or a group command (laughs in 8 hand grenades thrown on objective). Ok, now that I have laughed, I do think that could be a bit powerful, so maybe that should be restricted to single throw only.
As far pre-scripting them, I feel that would be a mess when it comes to most of these as would require a per map, per objective basis … it would be much better to rely on the command queueing … where you could have a set number of commands so once a task is done, the next one begins…so you could command build rally, then build ammo crate, then work on these sandbags.
I don’t see a “correct” way to do them outside of a per objective for a lot of these … what good is a mg, if it s facing the wrong way, what good is a rally that is built in the open, what good is grenade thrown in a stream with no enemies? there are too many variables for that to be a non objective/per map basis unless you are thinking of something that I am not.
Bot already know were build structures,medic box and place themselves with MG and other stuff, so there is no issue in letting them do it automatically, also yes maybe ordering them to trow granade to the point is a bad example but the juice is make them storm it and able to toss granade if they see the enemy
And technically I’m talking about multiple prescripted costum order slot you can make, for each squad
Maybe, but I am skeptical of it … I think I’d have to see it in action. Even Bot squad-built rally points are generally further than optimal in most cases I’ve found.
Maybe it can be simplified into a few parts
AI skill optimization
Automatically build ammo boxes and medical kits in strongholds
Automatically drop bombs when encountering an enemy behind a bunker
(They shouldn’t be allowed to drop bombs on tanks because there are enough ways to kill tanks in close combat)
More branch command options
When giving them defense orders, they will build bunkers and barbed wire based on fixed templates.
AI can already help players build fortifications
No need to have them randomly build in the wrong place
No matter how funny it sounds, the AI players who replace the games can now do everything you said, but you can’t give that to the player, otherwise everything will turn into dull gameplay:
You gave the order, you wait until your squad dies, you take control of a new squad and repeat.
