While sprinting across an open area (field, street, …) to get to a better cover or to push, whenever the bots in my squad is taking fire they stopped sprinting and look at the direction where the shot was coming from. When I switch control to one of the bots after my current character dies I find them crouching in the open and returning fire. These constant stopping to look then start sprinting again add up to where the bots are far behind the player even if you specifically give them a command to move to the new location before you yourself start sprinting.
It would be great if the bots prioritize getting into cover before returning fire in its decision tree, but then the AI have to classify an open area and an indoor area, etc… It would be much easier to give players more control over the bots’ behavior.
The current options in the pie menu are:
* Follow me
* Request ammo
* Heal me
* Formation:
* Close
* Standard
* Wide
* Artillery strike
* Place wall poster
It would be great if there are additional commands like:
* Formation:
* Close
* Line
* Diamond
* Echelon left
* Echelon right
* Column
* Staggered column
* Combat mode:
* Free to fire (default)
* Safe (hold fire)
* Movement:
* Find cover
* Stay here (seriously don’t go anywhere)
* Copy my stance (default)
* Stand up
* Stay crouch
* Stay prone
These new commands are still 2 levels deep at most, so it wouldn’t be too complicated to issue commands to the bots.
