Please consider adding an NCO Specialist for Rifleman Squads

Hello, I’m back here with a suggestion that some may find interesting.

I know I’m no the first person to suggest adding this class to the game, but I’m going to make an effort to make a case for the NCO class specifically for the Riflemen Squads.

During WW2 most armies squadrons consisted of riflemen armed with bolt action or at most semiautomatic rifles, so in order to increase suppressive fire and encourage closing distances and maneuvering around, Officers were often issued SMGs. Most classic examples are the Germans with the MP 40 who adopted this strategy very early on, but the Soviets and the US also utilized this strategy towards the later parts of the war.

Here are some examples of the classic German & Soviet squadron layouts.

Currently in game most Rifleman Squads are not really able to have an SMG and an MG in the same squadron without sacrificing one or the other.

Although, some of them (The Stalingrad ones that are the post-merge ones AFAIK) are able to have a medic and an MG, but at the cost of not being able to bring a Radioman, because the Engie is a must imo and with the limitations of the medic class, ie. no backpacks.

I suggest the addition of a new class, the NCO, but only for the Rifleman Squads, this could be done by either adding +1 Squad Member, making the squad a 5 Specialists + 5 Riflemen Squad, or just by adding the NCO as a further specialization for the squad, thus making it a 4 Specialists + 5 Riflemen Squad.

  • Do not add an NCO class
  • Add NCO class to Riflemen Squads
  • Add NCO to all Squadrons

The Gear for the NCO would consist of SMGs and ARs as well as Bolt Action & Semi Auto Rifles, this to further increase the diversity of weapons they can carry and also to reflect their use irl, as well as being able to use a backpack as opposed to the Medic class.

  • NCOs should be able to equip both BA/SA Rifles and SMGs/ARs
  • NCOs should be limited to BA/SA Rifles
  • NCOs should be limited to SMGs/ARs

Even further the NCO could have a passive effect on the squad, such as increasing accuracy and response time to the NPCs or something else like +5% sprint speed or -10% reload times.

  • NCO should have passive effects on the squad (Accuracy or Response Time buffs)
  • NCOs should have active effects on the squad (Sprint speed or Reload time buffs)
  • NCO should not have any status effects on the squad
  • NCOs should have both types of status effects on the squad

i’m not gonna lie, the idea came as I was talking about Saving Private Ryan with a friend the other night, but it’s not like it’s not a well documented historical fact or something that would not fit the core gameplay of Enlisted, actually, the fact that we don’t have a class that stands out in the Rifleman Squads is really surprising to me as every other squad based WW2 game that I can think of has one and I don’t think that I’m the only one that has like a “main” soldier per squad, I’ve seen you all running around with the officer’s cap and a sword haha.

Finally, I’m well aware that the Japanese are different in the way that they barely used or have any SMGs and most NCOs only used a Katana and a Pistol, but for balance’s sake they should be allowed to use a normal NCO’s loadout, but the option to have just the Katana + Pistol is so good that I’m gonna ask about it for the mad people out there just like me that would actually use this haha.

  • Add a special option for the Japanese NCOs to be able to carry a sword as a Primary
  • Japanese NCOs should be limited to the standard NCO loadout
  • All NCOs should have the option to run with a sword and a pistol only

If voted yes on swords a primary weapon, then the NCOs would forcefully require the addition of squad buffs in order to be of any actual use to the squad, so please vote on this.

  • If equiping a sword as a primary NCOs should have Active squad buffs
  • If equiping a sword as a primary NCOs should have Pasive squad buffs
  • If equiping a sword as a primary NCOs should have both Active & Pasive squad buffs
  • I voted no before about equiping swords as a primary weapon

But what would the NCO class do? besides look cool with a sword in the case of the Japs?

Do they get any special abilities?

You’re correct, I forgot to specify, but yeah they would need the abilities discussed before to be of any actual use to the squad haha but tbh, rule of cool is rule of cool.

I prefer more simpler solutions. Just allow Assaulters AND MG to be in the Rifle squad

For a long time Ive been thinking that squad customization should be overhauled

Neat concept… would be good with lower BR squads for sure but i see this having unforeseen consequences with high BR… i already enjoy rifleman squads of auto rifles as they are i cannot imagine if they were any better.

Well, yeah, I’m mostly basing this with BR I-III in mind because it’s what I moslty play in, and even on my BR V loadouts I try and keep as “Historicaly Authentic” as I can, mostly BA rifles for all factions except the US and so.
