Planes are ruining the game

The planes are overly capable. If a guy in a plane is the top scorer in every game then there is a problem. Let the planes fight each other but being repeatedly killed by a plane makes the game boring. Either downgrade the planes, remove them altogether, or make the AA guns or ground fire generally more capable. The playing field is not level.

i agree, an other possibility is to make longer the time to reload

the planes should be allowed to rearm explosives only every 10 minutes, ironically, it realistically would take longer than that. If this would be the case, more anti tank weapons are necessary, because tanks are just as bad

I’d be okay with that. CAS runs should take place ever 10-15 mins, not every 30 seconds. And, suiciding after a run to get into another plane or so someone else can get into the bird shouldn’t affect that cooldown.

That would not work with the current game model, there are games that don’t even last 10 minutes a lot of the time and would just encourage suicide bombs since 10m is a long time to wait.

I think the best solution would be to limit to 100kg bombs at most, or make the bomb radius smaller for the larger bombs.
Allow planes to withdraw from the battlefield so that you don’t waste tickets if a fighter isn’t needed for instance.
You could give planes a limited fuel timer that can’t be refueled so they have to withdraw, and it would discourage pushing your engine hard all the time probably.
But really I think the biggest issue is just the bomb radius, bombers should be strong enough to kill tanks (I have had my 50kgs bounce off tanks funny enough) but they need to not have such huge radius that they wipe entire cap points in a single run with no friendly fire.
Also, the suggestion I have seen of give flak guns a faster traverse and remove the gun shield, as well as more/unlimited ammo would help a lot with being able to fight planes well nerfing the anti infantry capabilities without the shield.

Let’s be reasonable… Let’s say 3-5 minutes.

As a pilot who maxed out the IL-2 and Yak-1 in the Moscow campaign, I don’t remember the last time I was shot, not even shot down, by any anti-aircraft gun. Most people don’t even try to use them and I don’t understand why because for me they are not bad at all. The greatest damage is done by not enemy planes, the pilots of which mostly crash right after they appear on the battlefield, but BOTs firing rifles from the ground.

From my point of view, 50kg bombs are… Useful. Compared to 250 kg and 500 kg… They are worth nothing. So it seems to me that 100kg bombs are the most balanced.

only Moscow AA used, on the rest campaigns AA are obsolete.

increase plane bomb/rocket reloading interval, and if that’s the case, they should allow 2 artillery strikes per team rather than 1.

I think fighter planes should be available before bombers. Like keep bombers at 1 min CD at the start but fighters without bombs should be available at the start and maybe fighters with bombs/rockets at 30 seconds. That way fighters can start a CAP to intercept bombers with they start their runs. At the least this should lower the accuracy of bombing runs.

That said, I personally feel like only Normandy has an issue with bomber spam. Probably due to late war equipment and open maps. Berlin has late war equipment but is mostly urban with a lot of cover so it’s not as bad IMO.

they are not. they are actually weak, I get way less points playing planes than infantry. planes are weak if you are very good with infantry, with infantry I can also cap and kill the guys capping, with planes u cant carry at all, only in some specific scenarios

it depends on the aircraft with more cas focused planes such as bf110, ju-188, and a-20 being more problematic than aircraft such as p-51

The real problem is that the defender can use unlimited manpower to launch kamikaze attacks. When carrying three CAS-capable aircraft, they can consistently bombard the ground accurately. This is extremely bad.So I now like to call German aircraft V87, V410 and V109, oh, and Normandy’s V188 and V110.As for fighters without CAS capabilities, there is no meaning at all at present. Only the defender can use it to make the offensive pilot feel sick.

i’m aware that defenders get unlimited respawns but that wouldn’t stop them from doing it in conquest either and even then a CAS pilot that doesn’t suicide into the ground would mean that they are at least competent at it or in a group with someone else.

On the topic of air cover, the A-20 is definitely an issue and the AA available isn’t enough to deal with the A-20’s for the Germans. Perhaps tiering how often ammo can be reloaded, such as once every x minutes, where x is the 100’s of kg of ordnance carried? The A-20 and it’s 4 500lb bombs would be able to reload once every 4 minutes or so, while lighter aircraft could rearm more often…

You have a max of 10 squad wipes in conquest. I wouldn’t say “competent players” describes people who’s main focus is abusing CAS for their own gain.

if a-20 is an issue for germans than bf110 and ju-188 are an issue for the allies on normandy for that exact same reason
