The knife is a one hit kill weapon up close. In a game filled with 1 shot rifles, that might seem balanced. However, when combined with this games strange jumping mechanics, you can just bunny hop around like a mad man so you are nearly impossible to hit in close range and just stab everyone to death really easily in houses and objectives. Even SMGs may struggle to stop you in time. What makes this even easier is that every soldier has a knife, no unlock or purchase requirements of any kind.
Now lets look at a weapon on the exact opposite end of the META. Pistols. Exceptionally rare in random weapon drops, the only pistols I have are the ones I took from my tankers (I gave them SMGs instead). Oh dear lord where did we go so wrong. Unlike in other games that make a point of having weapons do high damage (Red Orchestra 2 ect.), where pistols are rare but are better in CQC than bolt action rifles, the devs instead decided that pistols in Enlisted should be worse than even the knife. Completely ignore the insane unlock and RNG requirements required to get pistols in the first place.
The Nagant Revolver takes 2 shots to kill to the chest, on no wait sorry I meant 3, oh no wait actually 4, actually just dump the whole mag into the one guy and hope he goes down. Thatās the thing with pistols, you need to aim them to even hit the broad side of a barn at five paces. Aiming makes you walk as slow as you would aiming a rifle. A rifle can kill in one shot, this pistol takes 2. Ergo, rifle is superior.
I remember I downed a guy with the nagant but it was now empty. He started bandaging right infront of me for a full 8.5 second medpack use. I reloaded a bullet, fired it into his back at point blank range and got a white hitmarker. Before I could reload a second bullet, he got up and stabbed me to death.
I will not even bother recounting all the times I got stabbed to death trying to kill infantry with pistols.
There are numerous things I have found to be at fault with the game, however the sheer power imbalance between knives and pistols one of the most blatant and jarring of these faults that I have found so far.
Proposed fixes:
- Work on the danm movement system. The main reason āKnives OPā is because players can just bunny hop around like crazy super ninjas, which makes getting close enough to stab someone real easy in a claustrophobic environment. Knives should still stay OHK (one hit kill) though.
- Downed players should be easy to kill. I really donāt get why equipping a med kit essentially doubles my health bar. Downed players shouldnāt need as much damage as a freshly spawned player to kill, give downed players half the usual health until they can get back up.
- Bring Pistols in-line with the power level of other weapons. 5 Meters or less should be a OHK to the chest with pistols. Also give pistols far more competitive hip fire accuracy, or movement speed while aiming. They should at least be better than a rifle in CQC, seeing as they are the only CQC oriented gun that no assaults/gunner infantry can use and they are incredibly rare.
