Patch Frequency

Look i get you guys wanna wait til major updates to make significant changes, sure, whatever. But what I don’t get is why can’t you guys make quick patches for shit that should be easy to fix? Like the machine guns on the M14/41 tank, or the horsepower on any of the new tanks in Tunisia. Aren’t these just changing a value or two? Isn’t fixing the machine guns just giving them an arc they can fire in, or setting them up so they fire in the correct arc? Surely you have this down to a modular system so you can add new content easily right?

I guess my main point is, stop waiting til major updates to fix significant problems. I could care less if you patch uniform or texture issues ASAP, but you really need to fix bugs that affect actual gameplay a lot sooner than you have been. Don’t do what War Thunder did and ignore old bugs for the sake of adding tons of new content, thanks.

Because it’s a corporation. Every patch needs to be approved several times over in order for it to be released. Rather than deploying quick hotfixes constantly, the majority of companies choose to deploy them in large updates and put out as many fixes as possible.

There’s also the problem that the team making new content is NOT the team fixing bugs. They are two different teams with two very different skillsets and abilities. It’s not one team doing it all. One team to fix bugs, one team for the art design, another for sound design, another for actually coding it into the game so it works, another for everything having physics, weight, etc.

Yes and no, depending on what the problem comes from, it may require modeling the entire thing in from scratch and that takes time, or if it’s another problem it will require other things. It ranges from either a 5-10 minute fix to half an hour or more, depends how they added the whole thing exactly and what’s causing the problem.

Yeah this one is just changing a number. But I don’t think the problem is caused by that. Tanks seem to have a speed cap limit caused by something else, they might’ve added a hard cap on them for balance reasons or something.

This one’s just 5 minutes assuming you’re drinking coffee and eating while doing it. I’ve done it before.

Uhh…worked in game development before…you would be surprised how often this isn’t the case. I hope it is but I’m not exactly surprised if it isn’t the case.

Thing is, I’m sure the developers want to. In most situations I’ve dealt with, the developers always wanted to push things forward and fix ASAP, it’s management that slows things down. Useless bureaucracy absolutely murders any semblance of speed when it comes to game development.
