Partial Mags/Clips: Give us a hotkey to drop partials!

Please give us a hotkey to drop partially used magazines/clips/drums/belts so we can resupply without having to litterally shoot all our remaining ammo just to get more.

On a similar note, id like to request ammo from my Squaddies before being completely empty.

No real soldier would say “But you still have 3 bullets left! Shoot those first and ask again!”, They’d hand over the damn mag.

?? AFAIK you resupply up to the max llowed for that weapon and ammo belt combo in addition to what you have loaded.

So your partial clip in the weapon is more rounds than you would get otherwise!

i think it would be more interesting and realistic if they added a hotkey for being able to top up partial mags with bullets from other partial mags cause realistically in war that’s what you would do if you found yourself in a non-active part of the battlefield, you’d check your mags to see how many you have left and if you had any partial mags you would take the bullets out of one to combined into a single more full mag then you’d check your grenades and any other necessary equipment before setting out again.

It would be simpler is partial mags would automatically get replaced by full ones when resupplying. Partial clips should just be discarded when ejected from the gun. You can’t effectively store and reaload with a partially empty Garand or Mannlicher clip.

simpler yes but not really realistic, soldiers don’t just drop their mags they put them back in their ammo pouches when they grab a new mag you would essentially just end up with a single mag and raw bullets if they dropped partial mags

i think it would just be better to add a “Top Up Partial Mag” hotkey, i would just put it on triple tap R since i have firing mode on double tap R

you could select the mag you want topped up by reloading to that mag then your guy could pull it out and slide in the bullets your missing. or however many you have left in your other partial mag cause usually partial mags are only a problem when your down to your last 2 mags

Pro unloading

Hand loading for noobs

I mean, it’s a video game, so some level of abstraction is to be expected. If you really wanna go into the nitty-gritty details, then there are a million things that are not realistic. Like standing next to an ammo crate in the middle of a battle, and your ammo magically refilling in your empty mags…

well at a field ammo crate you would just and grab new mags and toss your empty mags in any of the empty grenade or empty loose rifle bullet boxes

so it would take give or take 10-20 seconds to reload on mags at an ammo crate in real life.

for any gun that takes a mag they have pre-loaded mags in boxes, its not realistic to spend 5 minutes hand loading mags during a battle at an ammo crate but if your down to 2 mags and both are partially empty you could quickly top up the other in give or take 30 seconds

That’s exactly what I suggested. When refilling at an ammo crate, partial mags should be replaced with full ones. I only suggested discarding partial clips.

yea i agree with that part of the idea where you grab completely full mags from the ammo crate but you shouldn’t just drop partial mags

I never suggested that. Partial clips should be dropped, as in en bloc clips for the Garand and Mannlicher rifles.

you mean this type of cartridge?

yea those can still be reloaded from partial full actually much easier then a mag

or was it this one your talking about?

still re-loadable by hand regardless

The first image you’ve added here is a stripper clip. Those are used to load ammo into rifles, then they are discarded. The second picture is the en bloc clip I’m talking about. That goes in the rifle along with the ammo. The Garand and Mannlicher rifles use such clips, and altho they can be reloaded by hand if ejected from the gun when partially empty, this was not standard practice. In fact, these rifles were only reloaded from empty, as storing a partial en bloc clip is not comfortable, due to the cartridges being loose inside them when they are not full.

yea lol realized that just after i dropped the first image in lol figured was no recovering from that L so id take it  but storing the partial en bloc clips would just be a matter of putting them in the pouch they came out of though im guessing that in reality people would shoot till all they hear is click click and then they’d reload lol

 or now that im thinking of it, it would just be easier to take the bullets out of the partial en bloc clip throw it aside and just put those loose bullets in the ammo pouch for when you need to top up a clip

No worries  But I’m pretty sure that if you eject a clip from a Garand, the cartridges will just go flying all over the place, as there is nothing holding them inside the clip anymore, and the rifle ejects them with force. In case of the Mannlicher it might be more managable, but I don’t think it was done for either rifle. They just shot till the clip was empty. I don’t know about specific doctrine or manuals, but I’m pretty sure there’s someone here or among the devs who could research such a thing.

yep i think your correct i searched around and found a video of someone unloading a full M1 Garand that clip goes a flying lol

i suppose you could put your hand over the ejection slot while your holding that button to catch the clip before it goes airborne, but yea seems like a task to unload a partial clip from that rifle

Lets say for instance with the M2 carbine, you start out with 30/60 which you can get to 30/90 from an ammo box. Lets say you use all but 1 mag (gun loaded with 30) but the 3 other mags have 1-5 bullets, you will NOT be able to get ammo from a crate. Test and tried and died many times emptying my mags just to try and get some ammo.

I know real loading takes time, I’m more than a bit of a gun nut and would totally be happy if I could spend 5-10 seconds to load a stripper clip, or 15-20 to load a 30 round mag ( my record was 30 in 15ish seconds for a 9MM folding backpack rifle) and FYI… stripper clips suck to try to load fast and they are cheap AF, most ammo I buy is all ready Stripper clipped from WW2 surplus still. Loading mags takes finger/hand power to the max when you want to speed load.

Now lets say we come out with a new perk that lets you reload partial mags, would this make people happier than a simple hotkey to drop partials?
