Paratrooper Rebalance

Paratroopers are very powerful tools in the game. Arguably, the ability to set down where-ever on the map is a brokenly powerful thing. Clearly, they need to be rebalanced but still retain their appeal and use.

I think I have a few ideas, but I talked to people who do have them and they also had some good suggestions. Not all have to be implemented but I think a few in combination would be a good compromise between effectiveness and annoyance.

  1. A warning when paratroopers are being deployed. This way, players are on the ground are more aware and can build AA or get to their AA to shoot it down.

  2. Slow the plane down. That ju-52 is going pretty dang fast for a cargo plane! This also delays their deployment and lets the plane get shot down more easily by fighters or AA.

  3. Spread the troops out. IRL, paratroopers were very scattershot and often had to reform incompletely. It would be neat if when you landed you weren’t a complete unit and had to actually run to your box of goodies.

  4. The box of equipment should be able to be blown up. I’m not sure if this is already a thing, but it should be if it isn’t.

  5. The equipment box should have different BR’s. I’m sure this is already in the works, but it’s good to keep in mind.

  6. This ties into another thread I want to make, but: Only 1 paratrooper squad can be equipped at a time OR, regardless of the number of paratrooper squads, only 1 can be used every squad ‘cycle’. This way, there aren’t constant paratroopers dropping down trying to get that rooftop edge on the point.

  7. Paratroopers shouldn’t be able to instantly drop on the next point after capture.

The plane shouldnt be slower but it should spawn further away

Ju52s and C-47s should NOT fly at 400+ kph under any circumstances
They were slow
They come in fast enough that sometimes I struggle to catch up in my P-51 or 109G
And yeah they should spawn a bit further away

They shouldn’t be premium and event exclusives aswell. Players who haven’t bought the premium bundles or played during the limited time events have no equivalent

fallschirmjager - can jump with knives/pistols only
everyone else - 75% chance to lose main weapon after deploying chute
supply crate - can break completely touching the ground or land on the other side of the map
actual para jump - only as first spawn when round starts, spawn on ground only after
now imagine the outcry

Well, we can’t go full realism, but there’s a reason why most countries in the modern age don’t use paratroopers.

I think my suggestions are a nice compromise between effect and balance.

Aren’t they already being nerf, take so much longer to drop now.

I would say paratrooper should have limit just like vehicle, too much paratrooper (even though I don’t see that much) can overwhelm the objective for defender.

I say only allowing 2 active paratrooper squad. 3 is maybe but preferably not. Maybe per deployment by parachute excluding those that are already on ground (i.e deploying them by infantry spawn/rally instead of parachute) not sure about those that already landed after para drop.

Would like to see what everyone here think

I am unsatisfied with the current paratrooper situation.

Currently there are

Allies: 2 high BR, 2 low BR

Axis: 3 High BR

Soviets: 2 low BR, 2 high BR (effectively)

Japan: 1 low BR

Japan needs another paratrooper that can change BR (same as Soviets)

Germany needs a low BR Parasquad and the Folgore adjusted to be back at BR 2.

Personally I think the Soviet Unique mechanic should have been standard on paratroopers in general.

A concentrated drop can work against the squad sometime, if para don’t act fast they can get mowed down quicky by a lot of thing single grenade or rifle grenade can wipe the squad.

Having them All drop on one spot makes them a high Risk high reward unit.

I could be wrong but paratrooper are suppose to be independent, scattered paratroopers would work well for player who would do their own stuff, not bot who would B Line to the commanding player running out in the open and get shot.

When I’m talking about independent, I meant not operate with IC, they’ll still form group of course just when close by.

Not with the flamethrowers. BR 3+ is already a bot farm for the germans, I don’t want that crap in the lower BR games. Everything else in the squad is fine though and obviously underpowered for BR 4

Imo I think that paratroopers are fine now, they are so slow to drop that I mostly end up spawning them on the ground instead. They are easily wipped by people aware of their position and it takes so long that it’s faster to just spawn on the ground and use them as assaulter’s instead.

It’s only my opinion though. And I could understand that people might be annoyed by their ability to spawn wherever they want. Also the fact that they are locked behind paywall/past event is unfair and I hope that this will not happen with the APC squads…

Thats why i said “adjust”. Be it nerfing the flamethrower damage to be inline with flamer 1, or removing it from half the troops…or both

I couldn’t care less about the flamer in the crate personally, was never the real value of the unit in my opinion.

To me paratroopers are just very versatile squad, AT squad, snipers squad, assualt squad, mortar if you want just with the added benefit of dropping in instead of walking.

Paratroopers are extremely good for attacker. But I pretty much never used them while being defender.

The issue is that this is not what most people wants. Flamers are BR3 weapons, seeing them on a BR 2 that can jump from the sky is too powerfull.

Except of course if people wants 90% of the player base playing germany regardless of the BR, as this is already the case of BR5 games.

Yeah there is not much advantages in airdropping when defending as you can’t really ambush the attackers before the point. I sometimes use them to get the sniper loadout paired with automatic weapons as I don;t play sniper otherwise.

Id be happy if they removed them (the flamers). But even if they didnt it would still be consistent with other paratrooper squads.

most of them bring weapons from the BR above them in the crate…then there is the soviets that Bring BR 5 weapons to br 2 or 1 in the crate.

The Folgore are the only squad that brings everything from Low BR to high BR
