If the leader of the squad dies using the panzerfaust, how come the next guy can’t pick it up?

you can only pick up the primary weapons of the dead soldiers
Except that that is currently broken
are you sure? because i can easily pick up weapons off of dead soldiers, but it’s only the weapon that is in the first slot
Yes, you cannot pick up weapons from your dead squadmates rn

Are you sure about this, Since I do recall many situations where I have picked up Garand or Ross rifle from my dead squadmates.
I cannot count the amount of times I have tried to pick up the single sniper in my radio squad after the guy using it tragically fell off a roof with a bullet through his skull.
Well, currently the Rifles of dead squadmates are not positioned on top of the body. They are left precisely where you died and have nothing to do with the ragdoll body of your soldier. So if you get killed while for example climbing over something, then the weapon would be where you were at the moment of being killed, rather where your body has fallen.
So it’s only the visuals that are bugged?
Well, kinda. The dropped weapon does not have a texture currently, so they are literally invisible for you.
