Panzerbefehlswagen VI Ausf. P - Uparmored commander Porsche tiger for BR4

The Panzerbefehlswagen VI P, or the Porsche command tiger, was an interesting vehicle for it’s time. It was made after Porsche and Henschel competed for the design of the Tiger 1, and while Henschel won the competition, Ferdinand Porsche ordered 10 tanks (known as the VK 45.01 P) and 90 additional hulls of his design be made before the competition ended due to his confidence in victory. That obviously didn’t work out, but the Wehrmacht had recycled these number of spare hulls and tanks into primarily the Ferdinand and later Elefant tank destroyers, there was one example that was turned into something else. This would be the Panzerbefehlswagen Tiger P, which was a modified commander’s version of the VK 45.01 P. It was fitted with better radios and other small changes, but the biggest was the up-armoring of the hull armor to 200mms thick, the same as the Ferdinand’s hull armor. While this sounds like it would make the tank invincible, it has two major weaknesses in it’s armor that can be easily exploited. The first and most obvious is the tall commander’s cupola that is shared with the Tiger H1, which can be penetrated by 75mm M3 cannons with ease. There is also a weakness in the frontal hull armor- near the sides, there are two angled plates only 85mms thick, meaning that if you try to angle this tank like a normal tiger 1, those side plates are major weak spot that can be exploited and easily penetrated. Another difference from this to the Tiger H1 is the much slower speed - only 30 Kph in comparison to 45 Kph, due to the extra welded on armor. To further differentiate this from the Tiger H1 though and, it should get the PzGr. shells instead of the PzGr. 39 used in game, which does have 12mms less penetration (153mms), but has just about double the explosive filler, which will have much more of an effect when enemy armor is penetrated and make overpressures much more common. I think this would be interesting to see as an event reward with a squad on BR4, since there was only 1 made.

Repost but yes

Repost? If you’re talking about the post earlier today about the VK 45.01 (P), that was a different tank, this is a modified commander’s version of that with extra armor.

Ok you’re right, I only read Porsche Tiger and made the comment.

That’s right, I really like this tank. It’s extremely tough and highly deceptive. Back when the IS-2 hadn’t yet been given its D shell and was placed at 6.3–6.7, and the 1943 version was still at 5.7, I would drive this tank against Soviet IS-2s. It was pure assassination—they thought I was just an ordinary Tiger, unaware that my frontal armor was 200mm thick. Even my front plate could withstand their 122mm shells. This often left enemy tanks stunned for a few seconds after firing, and I’d quickly take them out with a shot to their cheek or lower glacis. Their weak spots were just so large. Back then, this premium Tiger earned me a lot of silver lions. After all, the Ferdinand uses the same chassis. This vehicle, if it were ever added, would undoubtedly be the strongest. At the same time, it’s incredibly rare—rare enough to be a premium or event vehicle. I truly hope its addition would push the IS-1 and IS-2 further into obscurity. In the end, maybe the IS-2 could even return to BR 4.

I wasn’t impressed with this tank in War Thunder. And I don’t particularly want a clone of the regular Tiger.

So a tiger that can kill anything at br 3 4 but in turn can only be killed by br 5…you know what that sounds like br5
Unless I am wrong and br 3 4 5 can kill it, and no I don’t mean just the machine gunport or the back of the tank

the cupola

Pretty sure its practically just a slower tiger right? Sure its hull had Ferdinant armor, but the turret is just a regular tiger turret no?

Slower forward, MUCH faster in reverse.

Main Value is that it trips up everyone that are used to LOL penning the Tiger H1 through the Hull…Many players Often don’t identify it correctly. (Weak spot changes)

this tiger you don’t angle. It tempts players even more to shoot the flat Hull Plate

Does that even matter? I mean it would probably be BR5 anyways, considering regular Tiger is already BR5

I was talking warthunder. Dont think it would matter that much in enlisted (because of crosshair)

the crosshair takes alot of value out of many tanks

Not H1.

And Tiger P is more comparable to that one. As it has the same huge cupola weak spot.

We have a red cross in the game.

Yes, as you can see many people want the Porsche Tiger lol. I’d honestly be happy getting either varient tbh, but the one upfitted for a command tank does make more sense to have.
