Yes its another one of mine “cant prove it but it feels different” posts.
7.5cm L48 for me right now needs multiple hits on basically any target to take a tank out, its post pen damage is kinda weak - L42 from Panzer IV F2 is even worse, better using a Puma to be honest.
just a friendly remind that 140pen shouldn’t be something a tank can just “eat” without consequences.
Someone should take a look into this matter, because I have been right about such statements in the past.
The long 75 mm german guns never had that great post pen damage really. But since most of the players just see 145mm of pen and call it OP they never cared for details like that.
So most of the time you still needed to aim roughly near an ammo rack or near the main crew compartment.
In my opinion the gun is highly overrated since its main benefit the high pen is often counteracted by the higher base armor the allied tanks have.
So in the end you are stuck with both side beeing able pen each other but only one side can 1 shot the other side anywhere.
post pen is easy to play with since there are no in game stats on how it should perform but IMO, those shells have always sucked. Compare them to Japanese 75mm shells which OHK most tanks (if they can pen that is).
also its not even my point that Panzer IV deals little damage - my point is that some ninja patch in the past made it deal less damage, which is pointless considering its gameplay is that of a glass canon.
if it deals less damage than the enemy and dies in one shot always - then its not a BR3 vehicle, which should be corrected.
Ok, I did actually bring out the tank for a test drive on the test range and oh boy is it terrible and 100% nerfed/buged.
I never had seen so many ammo racks just beeing destroyed without exploding.
I managed to make 3 diffrent ammo racks just vanish on a singular sherman.
Something odd I found is that the first pen will actually damage a decent number of modules (some even to red) but any follow up shots on the same spot just wont do any damage even to whatever got turned red one the first pen before.
Even when I shoot right next to an ammo rack just missing it directly it will be fine.
If its only the turret that is hittable, ill need to hit that tank like 5 times - meanwhile T34, KV1 and Sherman will knock me out with just one hit to the turret.
Panzer IV should require 2 hits maximum to guarantee a knockout. Panzer III J has more post pen damage.
It’s possible that something did go wrong. I still remember the update that made this tank capable of reliably penetrating and OHK T-34s from the front.
Until then, the Moscow campaign was so unbalanced in terms of tank to tank encounters.
But I am way too lazy to check it in game.
Anyway, I really don’t think this topic should be considered suggestion. (But whatever, I really hate this new forum unnecessary overcomplicated system.)
