Hear me out first. Since the ideea of the game is attack/ defend, it would make sense that the whole team in defense is defending the objective and the whole team that attacks… well you get the point.
So it doesn’t make sense to get boosts for kills in a certain area around the objective.
Let me give an example: The enemy team has a divebomber that drops bombs on the objective point that your team defends, and he gets objective attack bonus. You spawn with your plane and you shoot down that divebomber. Isn’t that objective defense?
Well from the games point of view no, because you didn’t shoot him down near the cap point.
Maybe a better ideea would be to have the Objective defense boost take into account the number of kills of your target rather than the proximity to the objective. Going back to my previous example, shooting down a divebomber that had 3 runs of 20+ kills would give you that defense boost, not where you shot him down.
It will be really hard to draw a line for your suggestion. The game struggles with other problems a lot so I dont think the devs will be able to implement such a logic. I understand where you want to go but it will never happen. It is complex I guess.
Alternative perspective here, but kills against targets that are far away from the objective are quite simply less important to the team’s success than those that are close to it. If you’re spending your time picking enemies off right as they lose spawn protection, then each player you wipe out and force to respawn only costs that player ~15 seconds, as they will be right back in the same place the instant they spawn in. Meanwhile, if the player has made it all the way to the objective, then gets wiped, its costing them the 15ish seconds to respawn, plus however long it took them to reach that objective. So, in terms of raw time you deny the enemy, kills near the objective tend to be more valuable.
Further, as long as there is at least one more attacker than defender in the point, the attackers are winning. The defenders can kill as many attackers running around on the flanks as they want, but unless one of them either enters the point themselves, or kills the attackers in it, they are still going to lose the point, and all those kills don’t mean a whole lot. And so, the game rightfully does not give as much reward to those kills which aren’t actually changing the outcome, or at least are much less likely to.
Ultimately, the point of that xp reward is to encourage players to actually cap the objective, or prevent the objective from being capped, even in cases where they can get more kills by farming at the enemy spawn point or something similar. And as such, assigning that xp based on how many kills the target has does not make sense, because that encourages everyone to focus more on TDM type play, instead of encouraging capturing. And if you add in the fact that usually being in or near the cap point makes you die more often, and thus you may not be able to get kills as consistently as someone who is essentially ignoring the point, I think the status quo makes sense.
Preventing any rally points from going up near the point requires catching every single engineer before they reach such a position, its not a particularly realistic standard or goal in most cases, IMHO.
The dangerous part of a squad is the player, and they don’t die until their squad is dead. Beyond that, if opposing squads aren’t being wiped out completely before they reach the point, then you still arrive at a situation where additional kills far from the point don’t really defend it pretty quickly. Basically, I was also talking about squad mode. Not to mention that if a player does for whatever reason feel like they lost enough troops that its a problem, they can suicide and force a respawn, so at most killing their troops right at spawn is costing them 15 seconds.
This frankly all comes down to the reason why people get annoyed when others hang back and snipe all day. Unless you are killing every enemy, it is very easy to have super high kill counts, and also not really help your team all that much, depending on where you get those kills, and what the rest of the game looks like.
All I understand is that it sometimes gives me more xp.
That seems good.
And while it may not make much sense, it doesn’t effect anything negatively and just isn’t a pressing issue. So don’t mention it or they’ll just straight up remove it.
