(Not so) randomly flagging posts

Has anyone noticed that whenever they say anything even remotely against the Devs, your post is instantly flagged with no explanation? It kind of irks me, since where I live in Australia, (supposedly) one of our values is freedom of speech. And flagging my posts goes against this.

I’m not saying that everyone adopts this mentality. Just I would rather an explanation, or the flag button be used for expletives only, not my personal opinion.

That my comment got removed in quick time only proves that right.

This is the best joke of the 21st century.

And you’d think it would be smarter not to alienate those that actually finance this project. What a world we are living in these days. Rather stare at those disturbingly who continue pouring hundreds into it.

Edit: Hiding it wont help the game kiddos. Just makes it worse.

The devs don’t know what to do (they’re pretty dumb, no offense intended). The mods have relaxed now, but they were stricter and more abusive than the police in the US, but what they continue to do even now is silence any complaints about them.

Man, now my main post has been flagged. This is ridiculous

Basically I was somewhat ranting because any little comment I make against the Devs is flagged, and as valkay pointed out, ironically, that post got flagged by possibly the same person.

Can’t wait for this one to be flagged (this is the third time today my posts have been flagged, and I haven’t said anything discriminatory against anyone).

Remember one of the forum moderators, who shall remain anonymous, who unequivocally stated there would be no 250th anniversery event for the US military, only for a day later until the event dropped.

All comments stating this contradiction to the news post were removed, no one was even allowed to mention it, and the two posts made asking for such a event (both were already closed as being answered, because they had already stated it wasn’t going to happen) were de-listed, effectively scrubbing all this from the forums all together.

Can’t wait for this comment to be removed (not even flagged, straight up pulled), as all the others. I don’t even care about the moderators being wrong, they obviously don’t know everything that’s going on at the developer side, but pretending like this never happened and scrubbing the past is worse than acknowlidging that you were, in fact, wrong. No one expects a forum moderator to be omniscient.

The Duck Has Appeared

Let me provide some clarification:

Discourse has two moderation systems:

  1. Community Flag
  2. Moderator Flag

1. Community Flag

Discourse operates with a threshold for flagging posts. When a certain number of users flag the same post within a short time frame, the system gets alerted and hides the post automatically, as happened here:

2. Moderator Flag

A Moderator Flag is different. When a post is flagged by a moderator, it is completely hidden. This only happens if the post violates the forum rules, as outlined in the Forum Guidelines.

In this case, it depends on whether the post was just a rant against the devs. Here’s what the forum rules say:

  • 3.1.1 Profanity, obscene or offensive language, words, phrases, or abbreviations (including any disguised forms).
  • 3.1.2 Insulting the administration personally.
  • 3.1.4 Rudeness or vulgarity directed at others.

If your criticism is simply a personal opinion (without insults or offensive language), moderators will not delete it. However, the community can flag your post.

What to Do If Your Post Was Flagged

If your post was flagged and you believe someone is abusing the flagging system (because Flag Abusers are penalized – my “duck eyes” see everything), you can send a private message to a moderator with your post. The moderator can then review and potentially unflag your post.

Trust Levels and Flagging

Unfortunately, Discourse operates with a Trust Level system, which gives active users certain privileges. For example, if multiple Trust Level 3 users flag a post, it will be hidden faster than if a Trust Level 1 or Trust Level 2 user flags it. I don’t think this system is ideal, but I don’t have control over it.

To Be Clear

Moderators are volunteers and do not have more information than any regular player. Only the Community Manager, Helpers and Developer have access to more details and can either confirm or deny things.

Mistakes happen, and that issue have been taken care of

If anything that’s an understatement lol

They don’t even get paid? xD

Sad. there is a mod (I don’t know who) who immediately posts something that you’ve already seen xD

I’d say they deserve a raise, but if they don’t get paid at least they should get a cookie xD

Is it me? I’m always available for free cookies!

its obvious to any intelligent person that this forum has severe bias and moderator problems, thatswhy all reasonable people are leaving it after a while.

the flagging system used is a lazy, lowIQ one, as its easily abused by forumcreatures mass flagging a post. every properly moderated forum has basic algorithms in place which detect that and automatically make it impossible for accounts to flag if they flag too often or the same people flag together multiple times.
these are basic moderation principles used on forums 20 years ago.

if moderators here want to be taken serious, they have to stop being biased, stop siding with people the know privately, stop powertripping (while being a gaijin forum mod    ) & actually do productive work by fighting against toxicity, spam & the massflagging bs going on here. this is exactly what mods are for, do clean up the mess that algorithms cant.

It’s rather funny when I am inclined to agree with this one on anything.

I would like to say that on the actually day of the anniversary was also the orange’s birthday and with him being politically and all with everything going on is probably why we got on event that day.

I would also like to state that some people where being political about it, and posts were likely removed. That’s all I have to say on it.

Yeah, that too, but mine and some others who were only stating the contradiction had ours removed too, I wasn’t even engaging in that nor was anyone engaging in that way with me, it was just scrubbed.
