I unlocked and played with both BF109 G-14 and Yak-3 in Berlin and I must say, the G-14 is not the same upgtade over the G-6 as Yak-3 is over La-5FN:
G-14 handles basically exactly the same as G-6, has the exact same guns, minus CAS capability.
Meanwhile Yak-3 has much better turnrate than the La-5FN while almost matching the Bf 109’s energy fighting capabilities. Besides, I have exploded stukas with only 12.7mm machine gun boolets, you can’t do that to an IL-2 with MG-131 candy launchers 
Although I think both level 16 fighters are inferior to the level 4 ones because they lack CAS capability, G-14 is by far the worse of the two: basically a G-6 without bombs. Why does it even have provisions for bombs on the model anyway, just to increase weight and drag?
The G-14 has an extra 320 horsepower over the G-6 with MW50 boost (an increase of about 20%) but most of that comes at the higher power range, particularly at 100% with military power. It also has the clear cockpit. It’s not a completely different plane but it accelerates much faster and has a higher top speed. Also keep in mind it might need some upgrades to reach its full potential.
Yes, the G-14 has increased engine power, but isn’t very noticeable in the game:
Dogfights against Yak-3’s might start as energy fighting, but will eventually turn into turnfighting or cissor fights because both don’t have much energy to begin with. In that case the fight turns into Yak-3’s favor. Boom 'n zoom takes too much time and if there’s also an IL-2 around, I probably won’t be in position to stop him from dropping his payload.
Plus, after all the dogfighting, even if you come out victorious, your German teammates on the ground are getting crushed by the Red Army. With no more planes to shoot and no meaningful way to do ground support, you can either keep occupying the plane slot cruising around or just crash.
Level 4 fighters do a good enough job against planes and they can also do CAS. When the enemy fighter has bombs while you don’t, it already puts your team in a disadvantage given how powerful even 50kg bombs are right now.
Both level 16 fighters don’t justify their lack of bombs and practically unchanged firepower with improved maneuverbility, that’s my conclusion.
I do agree that the Yak-3 suits the current meta better. You can hit the deck and accelerate away but it does take time. In time the data will be evaluated and any changes that might be needed will be made.
