Night maps/battles

I would personally like to see some night maps in the game. This could be implemented in 3 ways.

#1 with dedicated night maps.
#2 a random chance for a map to take place during day or night.
#3 a dynamic day night system like how we’re going to have the first test of dynamic weather in OBT.

I think devs are developing this

I think that dynamic day/night system is too much, but night battles would be cool and very climactic. Especially with use of flares and tracer rounds.

Radiomen / mortar men could call in or launch parachute flares that stay over an area for a certain amount of time as well

If that was a thing back then - sure, why not. I’m all for diversity for radiomen and mortars (smoke screens would be cool to for example, but that not for night battles)

This idea would go great with a premium squad of soldiers armed with the vampyr night vision scopes and STGs.

Thanks for helping us brain storm ideas Freedom_Launcher!

Now you are really crossing the line.

I don’t think that night vision is a good suggestion for premium content. That could be too much.

Not a fan of this if the bots just snipe me in the pitch black with their lazer rifles

Just add a time system

errr…

are we ignoring the fact that we wouldn’t be able to see S*** ?

we don’t even have flashlights :frowning:

and it’s going to be a nightmare for " potato " pcs.

i don’t like getting 1 tapped from the bushes even at night.

now this is just trolling…you are purposely giving ideas that can harm the players and in turn the game itself…how selfish can you get with your money mate :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m hoping we’re using a loose definition of night here and it won’t be pitch black. Just somewhat darker but not too far.

Cause if it’ll be pitch black…I’m just gonna leave the battle and find a new one.

I think to interpret this suggestion as “hey we should have a pitch black map xD” is being a bit silly

Issues I see are as follows

If it’s randomly assigned to a map rotation no one will know whether or not to utilize precious inventory slots or their secondary weapon slot for flares/flare gun.

Only option would be to assign a flare function to the radioman’s artillery.

In general though I think the sense from the op is a thematic night map and not necessarily true to life night time with 0 lume from the moon.

Would give great utility to those squads. Nice idea. Let them have more ammo / arty types.

Of course, a night battle would have to always have a decent amount of moonlight to make up for the darkness.

The problem I could see is that not everyone wants to play on night time maps. You can already abuse the Gamma Correction to light up your in-game screen in CRSED when the Ritual of Eclipse is active.

On top that, I can already envision people complaining about low-visibility because of how dark everything will be at night.

Personally, I’m thinking they should make a separate playlist for night-maps further in OBT. Because I’m already worried with several existing issues with the “matchmaking” system.

Issues like:

  • God-awful matchmaking which throws you into a steamroll, which isn’t fun at all despite myself being able to land at the top of the leaderboard.

  • Server Selector is fundamentally broken as it still places you in high-ping matches way outside of your selected regions.

  • We still can’t choose which Gamemode to play. Can’t stress this enough, I have no interest in putting up with garbage Conquest matches when the game and it’s environments clearly aren’t designed for small scale modes like that. Invasion and Assault are where the money is at, considering those rounds last longer and allow players to accumulate more experience points.

Using the clock in the Stuka cockpit, the time does seem to change on some maps between early afternoon and late evening, which is kind of cool.

The only issue I have with this, is that on ‘Fortified District’ the late afternoon match can really effect the visibility of one team as they have incredibly limited visibility as the god-rays interface with the blizzard to create blinding sunlight.

How common were night battles during the war, and how were they conducted in an era before night vision devices were miniaturised? These are the pertinent questions, before we even get to the gameplay.

They were extremely common obviously, not actual all out attacks, but engagements.

They used flashlights, aerial/artillery flares: Shell (projectile) - Wikipedia and other techniques in order to locate the enemy. But the rest was basically shoot till you run out of bullets or die

So, not something particularly enjoyable in a video game format.
