New Soviet BR2 Tanks (T-80 and SU-57B)

I want to propose two new tanks for the Soviet BR2 lineup. These options could provide some variety to the T-50 and two versions of T-28 tanks currently in the Tech Tree. Both already exist in War Thunder.

A similar post was made last year by Kriegerfaust007, but it was in the Game Discussion section. I thought the suggestions were good so I wanted to breathe new life into the ideas and make a proper suggestion post.

T-80

T-80 3

The T-80 was a Soviet light tank developed from the T-70. As the crew of T-70 was only two men, this proved difficult when operating, as the commander has to take the role of gunner, loader, and radio operator at the same time. The redesigned turret allowed for more space to fit the additional crew member and was added to the existing T-70 hull. The new turret was less armored (dropping from 50mm to 35 mm in the front), but the hull sides were strengthened from 15 to 25 mm. The increased weight was compensated by installing a stronger version of the engine used in the T-70.

The 45mm 20-K cannon remained the same as the T-50/T-70, but in Enlisted they only have access to the APHEBC shell with 67mm penetration at 100 meters. For the T-80, we could introduce the APCR shell with 87mm of penetration as a second option for dealing with more stronger armor. This, along with its slightly faster reload, would make it a trade-off in BR2 against the better armored T-50.

That said, I could also see an argument for adding the T-80 to BR1 with the existing shells. I will include that option in the poll below.

SU-57B

SU-57B 3

The SU-57B was a Soviet a low-profile, casemate tank destroyer. Designed around the high velocity ZiS-4 cannon of the T-34-57, it could penetrate ~140mm of armor at 100 meters. While its performance against armor was impressive, the small caliber O-271 HE shell offered only a minor performance increase over the 45mm 20-K cannons of the era, and lagged significantly behind the explosive power of the T-28’s L-10 cannon. The hull was weakly armored, with only 25mm in the front and 16mm on the sides, making stealth and the element of surprise a necessary strategy.

Given that the cannon has great penetration, I could see an argument for it being BR3. I will include that option in the poll below.

No way people think su-57 should be br3, it has no armor and no turret.

We already have the T‑34‑57 at br 3, so the SU‑57B ought to be moved to BR 2. The StuG III F is already placed at Rank 2 on the other side.
