MP-33
DESCRIPTION
In 1933, the famous firm Mauser presented a new submachine gun for consideration by the German army (Reichswehr). The year 1933 was marked by the Nazis coming to power, and the restrictions on arms production imposed by the Treaty of Versailles were lifted. Although this submachine gun appeared at the same time, it was probably developed in secret in previous years. The Mauser submachine gun was made according to the Bergmann scheme with a tubular receiver, a covered barrel, and a horizontal magazine feed. The internal bolt and guided return spring were also based on the Bergmann design. The barrel was attached to the receiver with a screw for easy replacement, which suggests that different barrels were used for different cartridges. The known surviving specimen in 9×23 mm Steyr was probably intended for Austrian export.
The design of the Mauser submachine gun differs significantly from the Bergmann. It uses not a rifle, but a pistol stock, and an unusual angled stock. The stock, like the barrel, screws directly onto the receiver and serves as an end cap — without it, firing is impossible. In addition, unlike the Bergmann, the Mauser is equipped with a fire mode selector on the left side of the grip, allowing selection between automatic, single, and safety modes. The sights are similar to the MP28,II, with an adjustable tangent rear sight and a unilateral front sight. Interestingly, only half of the barrel cover is perforated, while the other half is partially covered by an extended wooden handguard.
