New classes of soldiers: Supports

New classes of soldiers: Supports

Supports are a new type of soldier which would not be restrained to a squad’s specialization but with a limit of 2 per squad.

Possible types of units for support roles: Medics, Spotters, Machinegun Loaders, Ammo Bearers, change radiomen to support (allows voicechat usage and pings?), and whatever else you can think of.

i don’t think this game need other classes.

you can make a trooper full of medkits and use that dude as a medic.
if he dies… well…
perhaps skins of medics would be cool? but they eventually get shot first. so i don’t know how that one would work out.

i don’t think a class for this should be created. but insthead, binoculars. i’m sure those will come.

technically, every soldier in the mg squad is a machinegun loader. since you can already get ammo for your squad ( when you ended up your ammo) and this class would make pointless the engineer. as it is a selfish option.

i disagree. i think that the radio man it’s very helpfull for clear out objectives or cut the enemy retreating. but i do agree that some sort of voice chat locked on radiomen could be usefull. but even there, we have a testual chat that will be removed if needed. not very friendly though.

but this is just my opinion.

cheers ^^

Aren’t engineers most of these things already, on top of being available to every squad?

Not to mention they get extra inventory slots if you somehow have enough medkits lying around to max them out.

Not every squad has an engi.

My responses to OP:

DEDICATED Medics:
Have no place in a realistic shooting game. Due to war laws, they are not allowed to enter a live combat area, which would be a war crime as it obstructs the combat, as shooting them would also be a war crime. They would be unarmed as well.
Combat medics on the other hand are just regular soldiers with a slight uniform change and knowledge of how to wrap a bandaid around someone’s arm when they get shot, which seems to be every soldier in the game.

Spotters:
I think the sniper can take this role perfectly fine. Give them the ability to put down special markers on the minimap, or something.

MG Loaders:
Kinda useless, as in reality all they would do is reload the MG and help carry spare MG barrels.

Ammo carriers:
Also useless, as you can request ammo from any teammate.

Radiomen:
Voicechat is already a thing, people just seem to be unable to get it to work.

We’ve gone over medics before; international laws apply only to markings and medics were in combat with or without them irl.
Besides, if you want to talk war crimes, double-tapping is a war crime as well and everyone does it both in-game and irl.

Pretty sure voice chat not being used is more of a consequence of public voice chat in most games almost ways being a liability, so I don’t even attempt to use it. But it’s a good point that building game mechanics around it would be a bad idea because it would only encourage players to opt into using discord instead.

Existing radio operators could use an improvement, so why not make marking more effective where they’re involved?
First idea off of the top of my head would be that any squad with a radio in it would auto-mark whenever they hit a target, with auto-marks only visible to other squads with radios in them.
