Hello Enlisted Devs and Community,
I would like to suggest the addition of the Balkan Front (1940-1941) to Enlisted. Specifically, focusing on the Greco-Italian War and the subsequent German/Bulgarian invasion (Operation Marita). This theater offers a completely fresh setting, unique asymmetric warfare, and introduces new factions that are heavily requested by historical shooter fans.
Here is a breakdown of how this could be structured in-game:
- Proposed Maps & Environments
The terrain of the Balkan front was incredibly diverse, offering excellent opportunities for different gameplay styles:
The Pindus Mountains (Winter 1940): High-altitude, snow-covered, and heavily forested terrain. This map would focus on extreme verticality, narrow mountain passes, and intense infantry engagements, similar to the pacing of the current Moscow campaign but with more rugged elevation.
The Metaxas Line / Fort Roupel (Spring 1941): A massive network of underground bunkers and fortifications. This map would offer intense Close Quarters Battle (CQB) in dark, concrete tunnels, combined with heavy artillery bombardment and defensive trench warfare on the surface.
Macedonian / Thracian Borders: Open fields and smaller villages featuring the Bulgarian army advancing alongside Axis forces, suitable for combined arms and light vehicle combat.
- New Factions & Squad Organization
Hellenic Army (Greece): Infantry-focused with a strong emphasis on riflemen and mountain troops. Visually, they would introduce the distinctive Greek khaki wool uniforms, webbing, and the M1934/39 helmets. Special squads could include the Evzones (elite light infantry/mountain troops).
Regio Esercito (Italy): While Italians are already in the game, this campaign would focus on the Alpini (mountain troops) and specific early-war divisions that fought in Epirus, utilizing their specific winter gear.
Bulgarian Army: Serving as an Axis sub-faction, introducing their distinct M36 helmets and localized loadouts.
- Proposed Weaponry
This front is perfect for introducing a mix of unique, locally produced, and imported early-war firearms.
Hellenic Army (Allied Tech Tree):
Bolt-Action: Mannlicher-Schönauer M1903/14 (The iconic rotary-magazine rifle of the Greek army).
LMGs: Hotchkiss M1922, Chauchat.
SMGs/Premium Squad Potential: The EPK (Pyrkal) Machine gun (A highly advanced, locally designed 7.92mm automatic weapon prototype, perfect for an Event or Premium Squad).
Sidearms: FN M1922, Ruby pistols.
Axis Factions (Italian & Bulgarian Tech Trees):
Bolt-Action: Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 (Bulgarian standard issue), Carcano M91/38.
LMGs: Breda 30, ZB vz. 26 (Bulgarian use).
SMGs: Beretta M1938.
- Vehicles and Armor
Combat in the Balkans was largely defined by difficult terrain, meaning heavy tanks were rare. This fits perfectly with Enlisted’s early-tier gameplay:
Axis: Italian L3/33 tankettes, Fiat M13/40, and early German Panzer IIs/IIIs.
Allies (Greece): The Hellenic Army had very few tanks, relying heavily on captured Italian L3/33s, Vickers 6-Ton (limited numbers), and strong anti-tank rifle squads (Boys AT rifle) and field guns to counter armor.
Aviation: Greek PZL P.24 and Gloster Gladiators dogfighting against Italian Fiat CR.42 Falcos and Savoia-Marchetti bombers.
Conclusion
Adding the Balkan Front would not just be a reskin of existing campaigns. It brings early-war mountain combat, the legendary bunker defenses of the Metaxas Line, and completely new tech trees for Greece and Bulgaria. It would be a massive content drop that honors a highly significant, yet underrepresented, theater of WW2.
