I’m working on a custom made French map and need some squad suggestions

What nationality squads, what divisions?

For example German Panzer-Grenadiere had two MG in a squad, which other squads did not have.

In certain situations German Fallschirmjäger squads went into combat fully armed with the MP 40.

British paratrooper squads of the 1st British Airborne Division in September 1944 in the Netherlands also are noted to have used STEN guns instead of Lee Enfield rifles.

The Marines didn’t participate in normandy. Then again, this map isn’t accurate at all and I do have an German division that participated in the Eastern front. So maybe

I generally recommend getting decent books on the subject.

Considering your question, I assume you do not have them.

Generally the Canadian and Polish forces on the Western Front in 1944 were organized more or less similar to the British military units.

If you like a more visual approach the following might be helpful instead of decent books on the subject.

Example of a Panzer-Grenadier-Kompanie (gepanzert) (freie Gliederung) / Panzer-Aufklärungs-Kompanie (gepanzert) (freie Gliederung) according to K.St.N. 1114c (gp.) (f.G.).

K.St.N. is abbreviation of “Kriegsstärkenachweisung”. This details the exact amount of Officers, NCOs and Enlisted men a particular unit should have when at full strength, and the amount and type of equipment, vehicles etc. they were supposed to have when at full strength.

Gruppe Führer = Leader Group
Zug = Platoon
Zug-Trupp = Platoon (Leader) Section
Gruppen = Squads
schwerer Zug = heavy Platoon
Gr.W. Gruppe = Granat-Werfer Gruppe = Mortar Squad
Kan. Gruppe = Cannon Squad

While all this is fine and nice, remember that units at the front are rarely if ever at full strength in men and equipment, due to casualties, sickness, missing men/equipment, maintenance, repair etc.
