mainly need something specifically to fight other planes, but be able to destroy targets on ground too.
so, any recommendations? currently rocking with 109, not a bad plane at all, just curious if theres any better ones.
side note: structural integrity on this thing is insane
Bf 110 or Fw190 when/if it gets fixed
The Rudder of the FW190 A-8 is shit. You can not make small adjustment with this plane when you want prcesily hit ground target. More info and video here:
You got the same problem in Berlin with the FW190 D-12 that looks perfect for what you need (fast, good payload) but is unfortunatly less flyable than a Stuka.
So you realy have only 3 choice in Normandy for both air superiority and ground attack:
The german plane are more specialized than the US planes that are the best for what you are looking for: P47-D-22-RE (best plane in the game because of the better flying capacility than it’s brother), the P47-D-28 with very good anti infantry roquets, P38 a lvl 1 plane that can destroy any tanks and do a lot of damage.
To sum up: Use US plane or humiliate the ennemy plane by killing them with a JU188 after bombing half of the map.
here are the ones worth considering.

bf 109 g-6: very easy to use, probably the most pilot friendly plane in the game imo, very good turnrate, decent bombs, but a bit lacking in guns
fw 190: extremely hard to fly but can be decent if youre a god at flying, really good guns, very powerfull rockets, but you will be easily outmaneuvered by fighters if youre not a really good pilot
bf 110: extremely good against the ground, can hold its own against any attacker planes, but is pretty fucked when facing a fighter
ju 188: best normandy axis has to offer when it comes to raping infantry and tanks, has a good chance of just instakilling nearby planes with its really good turrets, but there are no player controlled guns so you are at the mercy of your AI
me 410: worse version of the bf 110 that takes the ju 188 squad
bf 109 G-10 (20mm): cant attack the ground
bf 109 G-10 (30mm): 30 mm can kill infantry but it has to little ammo, 30mm is also good against planes but hit reg is ass, its also way to expensive
get the ju188 with 5 crew inside.
they will do the job for you against any plane ingame.
disregard the rest of the planes.
Don’t fly the 190 for air 2 air
Just use the 109 with gunpods or the G-6 if you like to bomb here and there

Further bonus points for the Ju188:
If you bail out successfully, you instantly turn from air support into a 5 assaulters squad.
The FW190 deploy flaps (ignore they say take off!), They don’t tear until 700, maintain speed above 400 and remember to lead cannons more than long range mgs, fire then separately, unless right behind then can do double burst.
Me410 good attacker more maneuverable than bf110, but less rockets, but can dogfight fighters!
Bf109 G6 has bombs, or heard new premium with 3 30mm cannons is lethal, and can harm tanks…

well, i ain’t gonna be too much technical about it as i’m not really an expert pilot, i can just consider my self an averange, and sometimes can get first with just playing planes ( i know. crazy )
either way, i suggest you to dive into the ME 410, and the FW 190.
both are quite fun, and have great firepowers that can pretty much deal with anything.
of course though, you’ll have to kinda adjust your gameplay based on their differences.
after all, we are talking of a heavy fighter “jet” ( zee speeeed) , and a fighter aircraft
I just use the bf110. It’s a decent mix between ground attack and air to air. You’ll generally do fine in 80-90% of the time unless fighting someone who knows what they are doing and flies a fighter.
