Need some advice about lmgs

How to use them properly in game ?
Bipods are broken so what is the most effective way ?
BAR can be run n gun weapon but others not . They underperform compared to smgs so no need to use them if you have smg anyway.
What is the best way to use mg42, dt, type 96 etc

Or
They should be avoided totally until some fix ?

id suggest this.

But with recoil reduction perk(s) / aim speed / reload speed they are usable but still not even close to versatile as simple smg or AR.

I will say that lmg is still effective on close range if you don’t fire on move.
You can quickly mow down lots of enemy with it.
Also the lmg is better than smg in long range because it has better damage and lower dispersion.

If you want to use lmgs I recomend:

  • use them in cqc with hipfire (as we all know that’s what they were used for)

  • use bursrfire when crouched

  • use them bipoded when you are prone, they are actually quite good in this case

  • better use HMG

  • join me and complain moar that bipods are broken and devs are lazy

  • don’t bother with them unless you have infinite ammount of patience or love this type of guns. Though if you love this type of guns better avoid it anyway to not cry in saddness like me.

I can use them as normally in big maps an at defence.
But couldnt find out how to use them effectively as attacker

Personally, I am trying to use lmgs and heavy machine guns when crouching. Single shot can kill an enemy, so you just shoot with short bursts.
Avoid full auto as it is hard to control weapon. It may be helpful only on short distances or in rooms.
Mounting weapon helps to stabilize it, recommend when shooting from a distance. When enemy is close - you should not do this.

Theory:
Do deep flank and try to cut off enemy reinforcements. Prevent enemies from entering the point.

Practice:
Yell urra and melt enemies with hipfire on the objective.

I actually tried to use them as that.
It perfectly works in pacific.
There are two big problem

  1. somethimes matches progress so rapidly that i couldnt do that
  2. some maps are impossible for flanking.

If you can, use HMGs. They are far superior and building them may be faster than finding a spot to mount.

Personally I don’t use lmgs when I still have acces to hmg. There is simply no point.

You cant crouch with hmg

Oh haha true, if I remember all of them are stationary in game.

Burst mid-range bot cutter
In Moscow I switched to MG34 instead of MP40, because of damage

Never use their bipods unless you are prone and use them like SMGs but with more hipfire and less aiming while moving.

If you have trouble with recoil control at longer ranges just take a look at AIs with MG and do what they do : fire in 6 round bursts for the best balance between rounds fired / management and start from there as a set that as the standard.

Apply that standard to all various MGs in game and see how far you can push it with each by increasing the rounds per burst while also staying on target.

I just set them up someplace and provide supporting fire, I dont really use them like some oversized SMG.

LMGs are way better at cqc than the SMGs

I hate it when people use the term AR to describe a weapon because they think it means AR but it really stands for ArmaLite

So there are a few things that I would suggest that you remember:

  1. They are MGs not LMGs. My point on this part is that the damage per bullet on nearly all MGs in on par with a semi-auto rifle. Therefore, ultimately it doesn’t usually take more than 2 or 3 hits to kill.

  2. The recoil is hell. We can all agree with that. HOWEVER, many of them, can be fired semi-auto either by just single tapping the trigger when on auto, or actually switch them to semi-auto fire. The BAR is a perfect example of this. (Personally I like the earlier version that has semi-auto rather than the “slow auto” mode.)

  • This makes them function more like high capacity semi-auto rifles that still pack a punch. Especially when they are fully upgraded, which not only increases damage, but also decreases dispersion.
  1. They aren’t really meant to be used on the move generally. Some of them can kind of get away with it, like the BAR due to lighter weight, or the M1919A4 or Petromel Mag Axis one, simply due to capacity size.
  • Rather than rushing into the fight and using as a CQC weapon, use them with accuracy to dominate mid-range.
  • When trying to cover distances and get into better positions to make full use of them, I highly suggest giving them a pistol. Use the pistol on the move, and the MG from more stationary positions.
  1. Regarding bipod/ brace and perks. There are definitely still issues when trying to make use of the bipod. Especially on soil in my experience. However, if you use an engineer to set up sandbag walls, you can usually brace on them from a standing position and be fine, which also brings me to my next point.
  • Many players are going to suggest using recoil reduction perks, and while it does help on the move, you need to also remember that it activates anytime you are technically “standing”. This also includes when you brace from a standing position.
  • Its up to you which type of recoil perk you want (if you even need it at this point, I personally use either horizontal recoil reduction or reload speed for mine.)
  • NOTE: these recoil perks also apply to mounted MGs and HMGs if you are standing when you jump on them.
  1. Lastly I would suggest building nests with engineers. Both for offense and defense. You can stack sandbags to give yourself a well protected area to shoot from. In addition, a VERY popular option for me is to set a sandbag in a window, then set another one just barely behind it on the ground, and a third just behind that. The fronts and backs should be basically touching. Then set an ammo box right next to it.
  • Why do I do this? In many windows it creates a pretty thin slot from which to shoot from. AI will almost never be able to kill you from the front. Grenades are MUCH harder to get through the window. If you see explosives coming, you can drop down behind them and usually survive. They are VERY good setups.

Hope this info helps you.
