My first reaction to the release of custom battle was surprise that the devs would be so clueless to release custom battles allowing full XP without knowing that there would be xploits. ~now putting on my tin foil hat ~
But what if this was not a mistake but fully expected to happen? What if the devs knew this was going to be exploited and they also knew there was no way they could fully prevent it so they wanted to see how the players would do it?
At the same time they wanted to make a clear statement to the community that they would have 0 tolerance toward exploiters in the future.
So I ask you, given that the above 2 points are true how would you as a dev to beta test your new custom battle mechanic? ~ removes tin foil hat ~
so they want to make people learn a lesson the hard way? :v
if that’s really true, they’re just asking for a drama and a reputation to be destroyed.
maybe they’re are just clueless idk
The more I read about this topic, the more I feel like they shouldn’t have rolled anybody back. We’re all supposedly volunteer testers while at the same time being customers. If we’re supposed to test the game, and we find an exploit in beta, that’s us doing our job. If people make use of that exploit, it provides data on how severe the problem is, and therefore how large a priority it should have for getting fixed, which is once again the community doing valuable testing work.
IMHO, which has changed a lot over the last three days, they should have privately warned the individuals who abused it and publicly announced what the consequences would be for future transgressions. They’d have their data, and they’d have made their point.
yeah, it would be better if anyone hasn’t been rolled back.
But, i think the dev notice this too late and then they decided the damage done is too great to not rolled back people account. we’re talking millions xp here.
This was more than just a minor oversite by the devs … If they didn’t know this was going to happen this was a huge oversite …
I guess the reason why I want to give them the benefit of the doubt is because I just cant imagine them being so clueless… I almost seems as if it was done on purpose or I want to believe that anyway
Can’t report the severity of a problem if you don’t test it, and if none of us had done it, it may have gone entirely unnoticed. How much worse would this have been, had all the problems that let it work made it out of OBT?
I agree, based on public bug reports of AI behavior, the devs certainly had all the data they needed to predict the problem.
People make mistakes, and based on what we’re seeing, either the dev team is right or they’ve made a huge one. If they have, I’d settle for them correcting the punishments issued and posting a formal apology, learning from it and all that, and while I doubt it was done on purpose, that would torpedo all faith the player base for all Darkflow and Gaijin tiles has in the companies, effectively killing the games when that information got out. I think they’re more likely to have made a mistake than to have taken that risk.
It just seems their response was kind of what I would expect when it comes to people abusing exploits. Pretty much every online game I have ever played, people who abused exploits got their progress, inventory,or bank/wallet gained wiped or rolled back. The only game that didn’t was the Division and it caused a massive outcry and people leaving the game. I honestly didn’t expect this much outrage to be honest.
I agree but test it to the tune of millions of XP? I would speculate that a player who tested how they could trap bots and only farmed less than 100k XP would not have been rolled backed,
It seems as if they only target those players who exploited to the tune of millions in XP.
And I was somewhat surprised that these same devs who appear to be so clueless as to not see this was going to exploited already had in place the ability to roll back progress for specific individuals?
I know I said I removed my tin foil hat but I guess I’m still wearing it …
Does it though? Give the numbers a look again, I won’t post them or link them, I’d be asking for trouble, but if you can find them give them a hard look.
Nothing to be surprised about with this. Individual rollback capability is a safety measure for both the company and the user.
Just as an example, I once happened to misclick and accidentally purchase unwanted premium content in WT. I immediately contacted support (WITHOUT taking ANY advantage of said content) and was able to get the purchase undone and my currency refunded.
Or, theoretically, if your account gets hacked and you can provide enough evidence that your activity since X moment was done by a fraudulent party, you may be able to have your previous account restored.
Why are things being done in excitement and rushed? every recent update has felt rushed, half finished and full of clear issues. Why is there zero communication between them and us, the people testing the game, as to what is going on?
