My minor complaint about recent additions containing "DF physics"

Some recent (but not only) additions to the game make completely 0 sense from physics point of view. While some are necessary due to how the game works, many could have been avoided with a bit of additional effort.
But they weren’t. And I don’t like that. Please avoid.

Examples (AKA cherry picking)
  1. Explosive fuel tanks.
Fuel tanks don’t explode, they are not bombs.
But you know what explodes and sets things on fire? Incendiary bombs.

So it’s a thing that makes no sense even though it could. But no because no.

  2. Paratroopers.
I could write a whole essay what is wrong with them but I’ll focus on the most “important” cases.

    • Paradropping with heavy weapons (Vickers MG).
I could understand this if soldiers could only use stuff they drop with. But devs added a very nice mechanic of the drop crate where paratroopers can change their equipment. And this crate could have been used to store heavy weapons.

So basically devs added a mechanic of crate only to ignore it because reasons and go with completely nonsensical idea.

    • “Stealth” transport plane.
Like, at this point remove the plane and introduce drop pods. The plane has no marker and (unlike other planes that spawn a bit further from the target) it spawns almost directly on the target.

It feels like devs thought: “You know, to make an airborne assault, air superiority needs to be established. But how about this, we completely ignore this major downside of paratrooper operations and just teleport things into place?”

  3. Radio call - bombing.
5 tactical/strategic bombers arrive over the battlefield only to drop one bomb each on both enemy and friendly .
Yeah, I guess I don’t need to explain.

Overall some things feel like devs thought “it’s cool so lets add it no matter what”.
And imo the result feels like this:

  1. Dont really care if they stay as they are or gets replaced with incendiary bombs.

  2. this needs some serious adjusting.

  3. Considering how little havoc they create and how much exp shooting them down gives they definitely could drop few more bombs.

It makes sense once you realize that you can´t get access to the weapons crate if you take the regular ground spawn. Even then I would say the Lancester is a better weapon for a Paratrooper squad. They do need to give us access to the weapons crate when spawning on the ground though. Paratroopers squads aren´t that good that you need to announce their presence everytime you use them.

Nice way to get free XP right now. They need to bring back the old XP amounts and increase the bomb load. But radio squad operators can´t call them in more than once per squad spawn. These things are hard to balance since their usefullness varies from campaign to campaign.

There could be an option to chose what gear you want to have when you spawn without crate.
It would make a lot of sense.

Exactly but then I thought “It´s such an obvious thing to have, they probably didn´t think it was worth the effort.”

  1. Diesel tanks bit hard set on fire, but try gasoline ones…
  2. I’d rather see we can customize the crate so when the Squad reaches the crate they get the gear we decided in Squad Management, as in a AT Guy, Sniper, Radio or Machine Gunner
    Plane should be marked agree
  3. they don’t drop 1 bomb no, and it’s up to you to decide where to place it, thinking out where will be most viable

Nothings perfect, everything could be improved sure

The bombers each drop four bombs in every campaign. I believe they are all 50kg.

Everything else I agree with, especially the Hollywood style droptank explosions and the paratrooper planes that instantly appear over the drop zone with no warnings and no markers.

No, gasoline does not explode from impact.
Unless you want to tell me the burning cloth on molotow cocktail is for looks and car crashes result in a fireball.

I could swear they dropped one 250kg each. Oh well

  1. The Steven-Seagal physics fuel bombs piss me off because they are both unnecessary and DF dared to explain with historical accuracy. At the same time, they have plently of campaigns where they can add planes with incendary bombs as they were already used in Europa since the German Invasion of Poland.
But I guess its just another attempt to marketize Pacific.
  2. Paras are in weird position. Imo the stupid box is unnecessary and they should make parasquads similar to Rider squads where you can add prartrooper subclasses. And make their unique weapons limited to those classes. 6 Vickers or 6 FG Nade Launchers is a bit ridicilous. And yes, I hate it how fast they are and that they have no markers.
  1. Never cared. about bombers except to shoot them down.
