Something something CAS spam. Something something AA guns are only good vs infantry.
It would be a great addition for engineers to build a MG with an AA tripod.
Doesn’t mean then the actual AA gun wouldn’t need a rework. It’s already possible to damage planes by shooting with a MG but difficult since it can’t be done while deployed.
The tripod would be high enough that it can only aim upwards and not be used against infantry. There’s already the MG nest. Unless there’s really a wish for it to be used against troops
Every nation used MGs as an AA gun so it’s easy to give each army their own.
Since the MG would be stationnary it can have belts instead of a magazine. Maybe don’t give the aiming assist circle like with the AA gun (or maybe do).
Pros:
- easy to build and place
- discrete
- fast traverse speed
- lot of ammo
Cons:
- no shield, easy to be killed while using it
- need more hits to damage a plane (just like it’s already the case with the current AA gun…)
- used only against planes

There would be no point building it if it could only aim upwards and ignore infantry, at this point the shielded existing aa gun would perform better in every aspects.
What I would like the to implement and that I believe is becoming a possibility since the news of squad vehicles (the motorcycles) is mobile AA vehicles. Would be much deadlier against planes (good thing in my book) would be dangerous for infantry (to counter this aspect, spawning such a vehicle could use a tank spot) but would be tank food. Every nation present in the game had their own versions (germans: wirbelwind, usa: m45 quadmount lovingly nicknamed “meat chopper” Soviets: I don’t know the equivalent but they did have some as well)

They have plenty of GAZ trucks with mounted guns, ranging from HMG, to single or double 23mm mounts, up to 37 or even 76mm flak.

I was suggesting only aiming upwards as the current AA guns often bring people complaining about it being used against infantry. But yeah, AA MG’s tripod allowed it to be used vs troops.
AA vehicles would be great too. They were used in all campaigns. And they already have models from War Thunder. But only if they do it correctly. What would be the point having a Wirbelwind if it’s perform as poorly as the current AA gun.
I was hoping for a solution that can be used by anyone. Sure you would need someone with an engineer squad but once it’s built, anyone can use it. AA vehicle you need someone to have it and only this person can use it.
I still think buffing the current AA gun is easier but if they struggle finding the correct way then boom, mounted MG, it’s nothing difficult.

Just let regular MGs aim towards the air when mounted (including engineer placed MG nests).
