The format is just right - mix of open fields, forests, and small towns. I find I enjoy Moscow maps the most. Tunis is like the worst - too much clutter in buildings, and everywhere, super long open areas, etc. Normandy is not much better than Tunis, with major thumbs down for Airfield and D-Day, and just overall not the best of maps.
Devs should mimic Moscow maps, in future designs. Although Querry is also low on my list.
Moscow for sure is the best. Quarry is definitely very low on my list as well in Moscow But the other maps in general feel like they have the engagement ranges just right, the objectives aren’t stupidly open and cramped like they are on other maps(but they’re still too small for my liking ngl)(Edit: actually some still are LMAO). And the maps just feel better than the other campaign’s maps. So totally agree with ya there!
The point where you need to cross the river. With a spawn 200 meters away and no obvious spots for rallies. Is so fucking bad though. With 2 active tanks in the gray zone, 6 squads sniping on the ridge, and the last 2 camping in some corner on site with an smg. Its almost impossible to take in solo queue
I agree in general, but the other campaigns are really restricted in this sense by their themes.
Did we expect Normandy without an absolute slog up the beach, against a lot of MGs and well covered defenders?
Did we expect the battle of Berlin not to be an urban hellscape?
Did we expect close objectives and plenty of cover in the desert in Tunisia?
I do like the maps in moscow, but I enjoy the others too for what they are.
I honestly do like the other maps as well, but I feel as though they suffer from more problems that contradict the core gameplay. Maps in like Berlin are super chokeholdy with their narrow streets and alley ways, that barely give any room for flanking because of the artificial walls of death. Now ofc Berlin is supposed to be like this with Urban warfare which I totally understand and support. But there should be other ways to overcome or get around these obstacles. Since the only thing stopping us at times is some artificial barrier placed by the dev. Would be great if they would calm it with these out-of-bounds areas a bit in certain maps.
Or even the usage of small tiny objectives in these large, expansive maps. The tiny objectives thing is really a stickler for most people since most of the time, they feel out of place and just arcadey at times. And it gets even more frustrating with things like explosive spam or full auto spam and all that jazz. At least that’s how I feel about some of these other maps. even certain maps like the swamp in Normandy with it’s tiny obj’s. The same for Tunisia as well. Idk that’s just how I feel about it. But it doesn’t mean these maps themselves are shit at all. There have just been some questionable gameplay control designs that have been made with the player’s playable area and their obj’s.
Moscow maps yeah the richest in variety despite some problems like Soviets have yet to get T-34 where some Soviet teams are struggling to fight panzer spam which is why I always bring an AT squad armed with PTRS unlike in Berlin where I can just have the engineer squad with 2 AT soldiers with them because panzerfaust is easier to use than AT rifles or I can just bring T-34 depending on the map and the situation. Quarry is my least favorite because of the weird spawn locations that makes building rally points absolutely mandatory but atleast I can use my SVTs and MGs more at the pit.
Berlin is still missing the Reichstag assault like why no sequel for Konigsplatz and some other maps like the Ubahn and Berlin’s suburbs. It did offer lots of streetfighting and seeing the landmarks there like fighting inside the Reich Chancellery is sure a fun experience.
Normandy at times it feels more chaotic than other campaigns especially with the crazy amount of CAS spam on both sides. Le Bre and Omer are the best maps there imo as D-Day, Airfield and Ver-Sur-Mer can be either Allies get stuck at the first cap the entire time or the Axis get steamrolled quickly. Also Airfield still has this problem of Allies can just get more tickets from balloons but not as bad as before where they can go 2k tickets.
Tunisia, its just uh boring despite I got engineer squad for Axis there also Axis having boring unlocks past the MP40 doesn’t give much motivation to play the campaign.
Moscow!!! (Moskau, Moskau, deine Seele ist so groĂź Nachts, da ist der Teufel los, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, hey!)
Tunisia
I do not play the Aircraft Target Mode they pretend is Normandy (unless to complete an easy Normandy mission) nor the claustrophobic Berlin. Not a fan of the Destruction mode. I thought I would like it, but it’s too much like 5 year olds playing follow the ball, I mean, soccer. Moscow and Tunisia seem to have the right atmosphere.
