Mortars

There seems to be something wrong with mortars, at least to me, people firing non-stop and hyper accurately at that. I don’t know if it is something with the Grenatwefer or german players in general. But something seems fishy.

well don’t worry I think they are going to do something about it in the future but at least the number of players using this technique got reduced a lot you should come before the last update it was chaos

well they would have an engineer in the squad and use the ammo crate to non-stop shelling the hell out of the point until you lose and it is really effective especially in the open areas in invasion mode where you expect where the enemy is coming from

this, and the fact that once you range in, the mortar pretty much always lands on the same spot. It is super accurate, but you have to eyeball the direction, and you only get an indicater at at what range your shells will land. And you only know the ranges of capture points, so you can’t really shell anywhere else, unless you are good at triangulation math.

In my opinion aiming with mortar is unnecessarily complicated. If you want to shot somewhere than just open map, place marker and fire. I don’t see any reason why map shouldn’t be as standard aiming option.
Because aiming is the way it is, it encourages players to go easy way → shot cap zones. (I don’t say mortar spam on cap zones will magically disappear after implementing this.)
Of course there are more important things to change in case of mortars, like limited ammo restock. So maybe when it will be balanced aiming could be changed.

True, map markers do make aiming easier. Instead, maybe make it so map markers only show range for allies, and remove the engineer from the mortar squad, it would force you to get help from an allied player for mortars to work, making them more of a support weapon.

As far as I know engineer built structures actually survive engineers themselves so let me give you very easy strategy how to continue abusing the hell out of mortar without a restriction.
Step 1: equip engineer regiment
Step 2: build ammo boxes
Step 3: Suicide
Step 4: take out your mortarmen
Step 5: … Here you go, you can spam almost as much as you would like. That is new recipe for disaster

At least prevents people from first-spawning mortar and require some setup.

Final result however, will remain the same, it will just take a minute before starting the spam annihilating everything in or around the open cap.
If engineers should be allowed to provide ammo to mortars, it must be very limited amount that does not reset by building a new crate. (That is at least only compromise I personaly can accept instead of preventing them from gaining any ammo at all)

Resupply should be available after 1 min from previous resupply, no matter which crate or soldier you use. It may result in campers waiting for resupply but it’s still better than current situation.

hold up is that your idea of a solution have you ever felt the pain of getting your best fully upgraded squad rushing a point in invasion and getting fully wiped out with one mortar shell ?? you are just giving them a break to push you back the map border :upside_down_face:

There is nothing you can do to stop people from shelling cap points, except for removing mortar from the game (which I don’t want). My idea at least gives attackers a break, it’s better than nothing.

so you were stationary under the roof of a building when all the barrages hit you?

No, I was in the middle of “open” field bipoded and I had to run for my life while under fire. Only one soldier managed to hide in the building. It was glorious battle.

I have never had a game as infuriating as I had just now, their team had 3 people all just spamming the trenches around the first cap on the other invasion map (not the one going inside the monastery) with the RM-38 mortars.

Its the first time I’ve rage quit from this game and if it doesnt get sorted, I just don’t want to play when you can sit safely inside your spawn and indirectly snipe anyone trying to actually play.
