Uncontested planes can masacer the team.
We have AAA and fighters to deal with them, but to be honest it’s very unrewarding thing to do in terms of xp. If you take fighter, destroy the enemy bomber, go back to fight on land, you “waste” qiute a lot of time that you may spend killing enemies and earning a lot of xp.
Yes, destroying planes is very benefitial for the team, but it’s not rewarded by the game, and that’s the problem.
I fully agree. More exp would at least provide more motivation to bother shooting them down which might help to solve the situation with one team having air superiority all the time.
Completely agree.
Planes are big macro mechanics right now (decide which route is getting pushed/depushed on the biggest level) and there is no insentivization, except for bombers ofc, to stay in the air and lock it down as an interceptor.
Cause of this issue is:
- An airkill is never guaranteed since suicide just gives you a vehicle kill, and even if playerkill counts it’s basically as many points as a single groundkill.
So: When plane got dmged by a player, even suicide should kill the pilot, and heavy point increase for killing pilots. - After the plane damage model rework, they got nearly invulnerable to groundfire, but also to lighter fire in general.
The main thing that is getting cripled here again is interceptors, since they suffer the most from beeing partly reliant on 7.62 or 12mm machineguns.
If you don’t have absolute ridiculous firepower (P47, BF110) it sometimes takes hundreds of aimed shots to actually damage a plane which results in everyone just picking heavy planes that are mainly there for ground support (Bf110, A20, P47) while completely ignoring lighter versions (Bf109, FW, P38) even tho they are meant to be the air fighters.
There needs to be a middle ground inbetween better air combat in a sense of better damage/responsiveness, without making planes with lighter guns be absolutely useless.
Yeah it’s odd how alot of the good support roles arent credited accordingly. Downing a bomber is vital as is building spawn points yet neither it really given any credit for doing so
Isn’t the XP bonus same as the tanks?
+1
A good pilot can kill 15+ people with each bombing, so that justifies the bonus xp to shooting planes down.
They also need to show AA guns on the map/mini map, so players can easily see any that engineers have built on the map.
It’s too low anyway. Shooting down planes requires much more effort so it should give more xp.
100% agree here. I’ve spent a good 5 mins in a dogfight with a bomber before only to get basically no decent XP for finally taking it out of the skies…
Just for another to spawn in lmao
I know i’m a bit late to the party but I can’t agree More. I’ve been having a blast using fighters to take down enemy bombers because I like knowing i’m helping save our tickets and keep the ground men safe from random squad wipes.
But if I don’t have at LEAST a 20mm cannon, i’m lucky if I do critical damage before I run out of the 280 12.7mm my fighter comes with. The rocket-plane (first american plane) is my actualy go-to even if its not as good at turns simply because it has the gun and ammo capacity to actually kill without having to go and reload and come back to shoot more. Sadly after all that work even with 6 enemy plane kills in a match i’m regularly low on the board while feeling like I was kicking @ss all match, only to get nothing but the silent goodwill of the ground troops.
This may seem like a lot but I think considering a decent bomber can kill an average of 10 people per drop, that a Bomber and specifically bombers ought to be worth 10 player kills in xp/score per one taken down.
I see an average of 5-7 kills with the rocket-planes unless the pilot is exceptionally good or lucky, perhaps make them worth 5 kills in xp/score.
Whatever they do, if they ever DO actually update this part, it would be nice to get credited a score equal to the assistance you are providing your team by keeping bombers and rocketeers out of the air.
