I’ve compared your radio operator to the one in red orchestra 2 and despite beeing an old game, it actually wins but you should consider some features. In red orchestra you have a variety of Artilery options, rockets, mortar or artilery each with their own specific sounds. You can also call a recon plane to mark on the map where the enemy is.
During the artilery call, you need to have a full conversation. In Red Orchestra 2, the conversation starts with "this is commander x, i need an a artilery strike on the co-ordinates xyz (you need to mark the location with binoculars first), commader x is ending the radiocall. And then you have to get a reply from the radio operator on the other end with "this is artilery team, i have recived your request, i am firing artilery on co-originates (as said) to the location, artilery unit ending. There’s a whole long conversation going on between two people and it’s extremely immersive.
