It’d really help out the tactical gameplay if we could use a variety of markers (maybe even arrows?) in the interactive map. Markers like “air strike here”, “bomb here”, “flank/gather here”, “potential attack direction” (that one in particular - I see many players get lost in chaos and have no idea which way they should be looking) and so on.
Well, in general, players communicate rarely here. Even something as fundamental as justmarking enemies positions sometimes doesn’t happen at all, but would be crucial for support classes like radio or mortar guys…
But yes, by all means more options would be great here.
I feel your pain… the game should encourage people to mark targets. For example, if you mark a target that is then destroyed by someone else, you get some percentage of the XP or something like that, or even a kill assist.
Well, one does not really mark tragets, but positions (except tanks, fortifications), so that would have to be done by vicinity.
But then how would it be handled if several people mark the same position/target? Or if markings are spammed (which could easily become a thing if there was a reward for it…)? That wouldn’t really help gameplay then…
First come, first served basis, I would imagine. It’s not the best system by any stretch of imagination, and you have some good points, but something has to be done to incentivize tactical gameplay, rather than: “I have an MG42. Your argument is irrelevant.”
I feel kind of guilty about this topic, I have a habit of not marking infantry squads because I’m distracted trying to kill said squad. The only thing I consistently mark is tanks, and even then I’m not sure it’ll matter because 90% of my troops have tnt and I can just bomb it.
The only exception is when I play snipers, then I mark like no tomorrow for some reason.
Well I have a real problem with the Battle tasks giving no incentive for tactical game play. How does kill 20 enemy players with a knife lead to tactical game play???
As I understand it, the system of battle tasks is soon to be abandoned all together and replaced with battle XP.
In the meantime, just look at it from the realistic point of view - WW2 was never “medals and ranks for everyone and let no one leave disappointed”. While some battle tasks make no sense whatsoever, some of them I can actually see being a thing in reality.
Like “play x amount of battles” - the Germans IRL had the Infantry Assault Badge, which you’d get (the “silver” variant) for taking part in three assaults/counter-attacks or a hand to hand combat.
The soviet equivalent (more or less) would probably be the Medal for Courage.
But anyway, just wait a few days, we should be getting an update anytime soon.
