In order to preserve my own immersion I’m trying to keep only members of the nationality of the squad in that squad but I’m not sure it’s possible. It throws me every time I hear a German speaking in an Italian unit. Anyone know if there is a work around when recruiting troops to select their nationality?

yeah, it can be done in two ways:

other previous unlocked squads
if you have italians squads left in the reserve because you don’t need them anymore, you can use those italian soldiers in side ( if there are any ) and replace them with german ones. so you will have new italian soldiers. -
accademy
weather for the accademy, ( of course you need stars and more powerful soldiers ) the only way it’s though accademy battlepass cards. aka the green ones. ( or Enlisted gold )
there, you will select soldiers of the same level ( stars ) combine them, and chose the option of " choose soldier ".
in this way you can combine 2 germans units and 1 italian soldier of the same level ( or stars ). once you will select the italian soldier and the process will be done, you will have an italian unit with an additional star.
although, this system might be removed in few updates. don’t know when.
but currently, it’s the only way.
