I would like to see Enlisted introduce some new features and gameplay mechanics. One idea that came to my mind is military dogs.
I hope you don’t mind the suggestion. I simply want to see some other living creatures in the game as well. However, the main question is: How could this feature be implemented without disrupting the game’s balance?
The main roles of military dogs would be detecting explosives and tracking enemy soldiers.
The military dog squad could consist of up to 5 soldiers and 1 dog, starting with 2 soldiers + 1 dog.
Additional soldiers from other classes could also be added to the squad, such as Anti-Tank, Gunner, Assault, Engineer, or Radio Operator.
- Detecting Explosive Traps
The explosives that the dog could detect would include:
- Anti-tank mines
- Anti-personnel mines
- TNT charges
When the dog detects an explosive, a red outline could appear around the explosive, similar to the highlighting effect in the Killcam.
The detection range could be around 0–5 meters, or another range that the developers consider appropriate. The goal would be to make the dog useful without making explosive traps too easy to detect or completely removing their effectiveness.
- Tracking Enemy Soldiers
The military dog squad could also detect enemy footprints on the ground.
The dog would only be able to detect footprints that were left within the last minute, and the tracks should not appear continuously. This would allow infantry soldiers to retain their own tracking abilities and help prevent the mechanic from becoming too powerful or unbalancing the game.
If the dog detects an enemy nearby, it would bark, alerting the player and temporarily marking the enemy in a similar way to when a player presses V to spot an enemy.
The player would then have to press a button to release the dog’s leash, allowing the dog to run toward and attack the enemy.
However, I know that many players have dogs as pets, and I believe they may not want to see dogs being killed in the game.
Because of this, I would suggest making the dogs invulnerable and unable to die.
Instead, when the dog takes damage, its movement speed would be reduced.
If all of the soldiers in the military dog squad are killed, the dog would then run away and disappear somewhere on the map.
I hope this suggestion can be considered by the Enlisted development team. I also hope that this idea would not create too much additional work for you.
