I love using the MG/LMG class but I would like to see some changes to them.
Currently, MG functions like SMG with much more damage. I would like for this weapon to be limited in some way because realistically, LMG was a very heavy gun:
Solution number 1
When holding or having this weapon in your inventory, you are much slower than other soldiers who are holding regular rifles
Solution number 2
It is only possible to aim with the MG when having it mounted on an object.
Otherwise, player will only have the ability to hip-fire the MG on the move but not aim with it
I personally prefer solution number 1. LMGs should be definetely more bulky than other weapons as a tradeoff for their firepower. But they should not only make you run slower, but also descrease turning speed and aiming speed. There could also be some kind of stamina depletion when firing when standing (but that could be too much).
Isn’t something like that already in there? As if i run with MG’s it is much slower than with another classes, but that could be just me. But i agree it should be tweaked and make them even slower. But they should be able to aim, if you are standing you can do just burst anotherwise it will fire to space.
But honestly it woudn’t matter to me as i use them 80% in windows or static positions.
I mean solution 1 is already in game. It should probably be just a little more noticeable. LMGs should also have a longer aim down sight time than currently due to them being bulky and heavy weapons.
Still you can turn very fast, which is one of the factors that make LMGs so powerful in CQB. At the moment there are almost no penalties for the weight of LMGs and that’s why they are sometimes used as a big SMGs.
Okay I just tested it out, theres a massive difference in time. I did a 50 meter sprint in the practice mode with a soldier equipped with an LMG. It took me 13.05 seconds. Backed out and swapped the same soldier to carry a kar 98. Same run took me 11.15 seconds. There is without a doubt a move speed difference based off of weight of your loadout
There is no reason to make stuff up, they can generate a formula which effectively slows down each soldier based on the weight of the equipment carried.
Its rather simple and effective, and more importantly as you use stuff up, your soldier regains their mobility.
The weight of all the elements are historically available and can therefore easily be coded into the game.
This would make a lot of sense given the options to carry small or large ammo/grenade satchels and backpacks. The more you carry the slower you are - simple trade off.
WRT aim down sights and lateral mobility those could also be modified by weapon weight, as ppl suggest, and would therefore help differentiate waving around a pistol, from an SMG, from a rifle or LMG or even some of the heavier weapons like the FT or ATR.
Pretty sure it already does, that’s why all equipment has listed weight. The slowest guys in my campaign are mg34 gunners, because of very heavy weapon + big ammo + grenades + medkit.
The only relatively fast mg gunner I have so far is a one with breda, which is a shit MG in the first place.
Yeah this is already implemented, the whole reason why everything down to medpacks have a weight listed in their stats. Loading one soldier down with all your gear makes him move slower and stamina deplete faster.
I have idea. The Hell Let Loose approach, you hold onto the bipod when ADSing while standing up. It would help control recoil, make you slower, but still has the accuracy of hipfing
