I think it would be nice to have overheating mehcanic for MGs because it would be another balancing feature and would aslo add next layer of “realism” to the game. Of course it all depends on the way it could be implemented.
What do you think guys?
For overheating, barrel swapping would also have to be a thing in return.
Yes I totaly agree. But many countries didn’t have MG with swappable barrel, or at least not witouth tools.
Ps.
Tbh, if you would like to make MGs mechanics somewhat close to real world stuff than german MGs would be OP. That’s only my opinion.
MG is already overheating.
I’m not sure we even have enough rounds for LMGs for overheating to be a concern, and the heavier MGs already can overheat.
Malfunctions are what would realistically balance LMGs and SMGs. It’s ass-backwards that only bolt actions can malfunction right now when IRL they would be the most reliable out of everything available.
indeed
this is not a balance measure, its there to increase authenticity and this is how it should stay. Furthermore i have never experienced it, its a very rare thing that affects shooting in such a small manner that i couldnt even notice it with my 500 play hours

Now we don’t have any, but for example MG42 with 250 round belt can overheat. Well, even MG with 20 round mag can, after all heat doesn’t vanish afret reload.
I like your idea about malfunction, but another RNG feature in that game, that affects gun play this time, would be so annoying.
And don’t use term heavy MG for this thing that is in game currently.
Again, there isn’t enough ammo on hand to overheat unless you spend all game sitting on an ammo cache. magazine size has nothing to do with it.
Malfunctions already exist, they’re especially prevalent on German bolt actions, and my PTRD also sees something of the kind occasionally though I’m not sure if it’s deliberate or an animation bug.
Heavy MGs by the WWII definition are a thing, it more referred to tactical role than caliber.
I thought you meant mag size. Anyway, I double checked and results are as follows:
Barrel of MG42 should be changed every 200-250 shooted rounds. So it’s valid for in game MGs.
I have never met mallfunction. Do all guns have it?
That’s why I wrote to not call this MG42 on bipod on sandbags HMG. Also this way of naming things was uesd mostly by germans.
No, like I said only a handful, and I’m sure more will get it in the future.
The easiest way to experience one is to go into training with a german squad using bolt actions, and fire until you have to reload an entire clip (rather than individual bullets)- sometimes the clip gets stuck and there’s an animation for your character having to slap it in harder.
It might also exist with the PTRD and PPD, but the animations for those seem more like you’re having to do more fucking around with the bolt with the PTRD, or the charging handle of the PPD.
Ok, thanks for info
