MG / bipod improvements - soap opera episode 498

A few worlds of explanation

I won’t lie, I’m getting kind of annoyed. So forgive me if I sound rude etc.
For about two years I’ve been making suggestions about this topic and all I get is BS called VGO MG.
Everybody has it’s limits and I feel I’m approaching mine.

A list of features that in my opinion would make heavier MGs far better than what we have now:

  1. Fix of mounting system.

Mounting is often unreliable. There are a lot of surfaces that look like ideal place to mount a machine gun but it turns out you simply can’t o this. Game does not allow.
It’s almost every window, many sandbags, many railings, many fences, list goes on.

Mounted gun has very limited firing arc. It’s basically impossible to aim downwards, you can maybe achieve -5° aiming angle. This makes every elevated position useless and many “normal” positions are also unusable due to maybe 0.5-1m height difference between shooter and target.

Mounting not only doesn’t reduce bullet dispersion but even increases it. On top of that mounting doesn’t reduce recoil. Unless when you are prone, then and only then it works quite well.
This renders even mounted MGs highly vulnerable to enemy retaliation. It makes mounting a detriment instead of an asset.

[EDIT] I forgot about the video.

  2. Aiming

In my opinion Enlisted should copy MMGs from Battlefield V.
There player is unable to use sights unless the gun is mounted. Trying to aim in this situation causes player to “brace”. Bracing reduces movement speed, increases accuracy and decreases recoil (but it’s still quite big).
Shooting without bracing is results in huge recoil, low accuracy and makes the gun really hard to use unless at extremly close range.

To make things more interesting, there could be a soldier perk avalable that allows to ADS. Personally I’d make it med-high priced (18-20 handling probably) as it’s a “big deal” kind of perk since it changes the weapon characteristic a lot.

  3. Amunition
I’ll just quote my other topic since there is no point repeating it.

Why?

The reason is simple. More diverse gameplay.

Current MGs are nothing more than worse SMGs/ARs with more damage. Those weapon types already make for at least 40% of guns we have in game.
So sacrificing a gun type (MG) that is rather unique in the way it operates, to make it similar to multiple other weapons is in my opinion a huge waste of potential.
In my opinion a game should aim to allow as much gameplay styles as possible. This way it can attract more players. Turning MGs into “heavy SMGs” works against this.

After seeing some VGO gameplay, I’m not sure if devs don’t know how to make MGs work, don’t care or maybe they want MGs to be this way.
I’ve been making similar posts for 2 years now and seeing that devs do exactly the oposite is heart breaking.

I’m pinging you all because I simply want to know.
Do devs know about MGs being bad in their intended role? Do they plan on doing anything? Or are they simply OK with MGs being heavy SMGs and want them this way?

Well I think some LMGs(BAR, Bren, ZB, Breda, Madsen, Type 98, Type 99, small mag MG13) should stay as more mobile “automatic rifle” type guns. However I agree that heavier MGs should reward more strategic positioning

Hi.

I have asked developers about the MG and bipod system…

lets wait for an answer, and, if i can i will provide it.

That’s why I wrote “heavier MGs”.
Also it’s kind of obvious. I hope.

Thanks for the tag. Next to Shiivex I underlined the current issue. Let’s wait.

Tell them to give deployed MGs the same recoil and accuracy as constructible MGs and tank Mgs.

And give tank mgs the same damage as normal mgs

Not disagreeing with the topic, but I gotta say, I’ve had no issues mounting MGs on windows lately. Haven’t tried other surfaces, though.

I agree that Enlisted should follow the lead of Red Orchestra, Verdun, etc. and require machineguns to be braced/deployed in order to ADS;

improving the deployment system in general would be good as well.

Exceptions to this would include the BAR and FG-42 obviously.

Number one would be more than enough.

I agree to a lot of stuff you said in this topic except the one I quote above.

The dev tryed to nerf LMG mobility, stamina and aiming in Stalingrad. Without a doubt it was shit.
Let’s find a solution that will not drift everyone toward SMG… if it’s not already the case.

I would like to see BAR reduce the vertical recoil a bit more in light of the weight of the gun and give it the status of a Automatic-Rifle that can compete with the StG44. pleeeese

I see your point but limited mobility is one of the main features of this weapon class.

I simply would like to prevent it from being a cqc room sweeper in hip fire. This is not it’s role, it’s SMGs’ role.
Though to be fair I have doubts if my suggestion will adress that.

In terms of stalingrad.
Devs made mobility worse and gave nothing in return so it was obvious it will fail. They should have fixed mounting first and foremost. Not to mention broken recoil that sitll hasn’t been fixed due to lazyness.
Though I like that with a perk you can mitigate stamina drain while ADSing. I had sth similar in mind but I forgot to add it.

Can I suggest to add that mounting is passive? (only reason I say this as there are very few games that can pull off a proper mounting system, without being super janky and unresponsive)

By passive I mean, bipod is auto deployed when laying down (Like BF, if I remember correctly). And Auto deployed if you aim down sights near a window or ledge or whatever. Cant remember what game does this

I’d say manual vs automatic mounting is a matter of prefference.
Both have advanyages and disadvantages but nothing ground breaking.

Generally automatic is faster (it would suit the game dynamics) while manual is more “robust” (you don’t suddenly dismount).
That’s what my experience tells but Enlisted made me question this.

By auto deployed I just meant a passive buff, No setup animation no nothing, Just simply need to be laying down or pressed up against a ledge, window, sandbag for your iron sights and recoil benefits to exist.

Not exactly cool or anything. Just overly simple and functional

Id rather a manual setup…but I cant think of a game where that was good

I’d preffer to actually have some kind of animation.
If H&G devs were capable, everyone is. Though our devs are quite retarded in that matter.

I must have missed the HnG Bipod system or dont remember it. Was it a late addition?

It was before… yyy… for sure before armour 2.0 and captured weapons (a lot before).
But I can’t give you anything more specyfic.

Later I’ll look for some videos. Those bipods were piece of art.

@VoyoMayPL I have asked developers

There are some planed changes on MG firing angles, the developers are considering the remaining ideas you did bring on this topic regarding MG mounting system.
